The Jaguars opened training-camp practices Wednesday morning, and second-year lightning rod Travis Hunter played first-team snaps on both offense and defense.
What They're Saying: Hunter's Everywhere Already
SI.com Jaguars writer John Shipley: "We thought there was a chance the Jaguars would slowly bring Hunter back to speed after his recovery from last year's knee injury, but there was nothing slow about Hunter and the day that he had on Wednesday. ... Hunter, who donned a teal offensive jersey to start the day, warmed up with wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett before heading over to the defensive backs for individual drills. When the Jaguars then got into team drills, Hunter got the third rep of the day with the starting offense. Once the starting offense was done, Hunter then took his place at cornerback with the starting defense. ... In short, Hunter got starting reps on both sides of the ball, looks as athletic as ever, and does not show any signs of slowing down."
Jags reporter Mia O'Brien: "[HC Liam] Coen showed reporters after his post-practice press conference his play sheet that designates exactly which plays and periods Hunter is to be on-field, off the field, on offense, on defense, etc."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Don't Bet on Predictability
Get ready for things to keep going like this.
Hunter's unique skill set and No. 2 overall pick status from 2025 will continue to make him interesting to fantasy football managers and football fans in general. But we'll probably come up short on the answers that actually tell us how to treat him in fantasy.
Coen might have a detailed practice plan, but he'll likely spend summer determining exactly how the regular-season Hunter plan will work. And that plan's likely to evolve during the season.
Hunter's rookie year got truncated by the Week 7 knee injury. And we already know the Jags plan to play him more on defense than they did last year. This version of the roster supports that, with a weaker CB depth chart vs. fortified offensive positions.
Jacksonville traded for WR Jakobi Meyers in the middle of last year and then extended his contract. WR Parker Washington broke out over the second half. And the team reportedly expects a bounce-back season from WR Brian Thomas Jr.
The Jaguars also spent second- and fifth-round picks on TEs Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol. That increases the potential for multi-TE sets -- alongside newly extended TE Brenton Strange -- which would come at the expense of WR snaps.
Hunter makes sense as a late-round best ball pick, where you can take advantage of any big weeks and not worry about the consistency. But it's tough to envision him becoming a comfy starter in managed 2026 redraft leagues.
We'll keep watching those updates to see if anything changes, though.
