This whole Alec Pierce situation is getting annoying. Colts GM Chris Ballard addressed reporters late Wednesday and said previous reports about the WR getting a second platelet-rich plasma injection on his recovering ankle were innacurate. According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, Ballard said the January PRP injection -- before the surgery -- has been the only such treatment for Pierce.
What They're Saying: Rehab Process Rolls on
Ballard: "It's been like any rehab. There's ups and downs. There's a new normal that they have to get used to. But there's no setback. He's in good shape. He's making great progress. Every player comes back differently, and we feel good about where he's at."
Asked whether Pierce would be ready for Week 1, Ballard added: "That is our plan as of right now. But look, you're talking to someone who's lived through some funny injury deals. That's the expectation. It's kind of day-to-day."
Mike Chappell of Fox 59/CBS 4: "One thing Chris Ballard mentioned to media in Foxboro [Wednesday]: Alec Pierce's surgery dealt with ankle AND heel."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Who Knows Yet?
Got it. So that's no second PRP injection but more extensive surgery than was previously reported.
Either way, no one in Indy seems ready to say when we'll actually find Pierce on the field again. And no practice as of Aug. 12 seems to make the idea of playing Sept. 13 overly optimistic.
We'll keep watching for more concrete updates on Pierce's progress and timeline. For now, he's impossible to like any higher than the border of WR4 to WR5 range in fantasy drafts.
