There are no set rules for how long a player can stay on the exempt list, but they don’t tend to come off quickly. And using that tact rather than waiting for Jacobs’ case to play out before suspending him indicates the NFL is taking this one seriously.
Treat Jacobs as though he’s not likely to take the field this season when you draft. If you want to spend a pick in the double-digit rounds on the chance he returns, there’s payoff potential. There’s also the chance he doesn’t play again.
MarShawn Lloyd’s fantasy outlook improves dramatically. Chris Brooks and Johnson each deserve draft consideration now as well.
And Green Bay figures to lean more toward the pass without Jacob’s. That boosts the outlook for Jordan Love and all his pass catchers at least slightly.
