Cleveland's rookie receivers led the passing game in usage and production in Sunday's opener against Jacksonville. KC Concepcion paced the Browns in targets (5) and catches (4) while trailing only Denzel Boston in receiving yards (59 to 43). Boston tied for second on the team with 4 targets and caught just two of them, but one of those produced the team's lone TD from 46 yards out late in the fourth quarter. Boston and Concepcion also led the group in playing time, but the team's overall offensive performance bodes ill for everyone's fantasy upside.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Let's Hope It Doesn't Stay This Bad
It certainly wasn't surprising to see Cleveland lose handily at Jacksonville. But the effort proved truly pathetic.
The Browns fell behind 14-0 by the end of the first quarter and 24-0 by halftime. Yet despite such a negative game script, we didn't even get elevated passing volume to pad the receiving numbers.
Deshaun Watson did drop back on 31 of 51 snaps, 60.8% of the total. But 5 sacks and further pressure helped limit him to just 22 pass attempts. Watson totaled 205 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT on 16-of-22 passing, with that yardage total boosted significantly by Boston's late TD.
Watson reached halftime at 8-of-13 passing for 75 yards (5.8 yards per pass attempt).
The passing obviously must improve to support meaningful fantasy value for the rookie wideouts. To be fair, Jacksonville ranked seventh in pass-defense DVOA and sixth in total defensive DVOA last season, so we should assume it's a good defense again this year.
We'll see if Watson can fare better against a likely softer Bucs D in Week 2.
Let's Close with the Positive
We knew the Browns would offer limited passing production thanks to a bad QB situation. TE Harold Fannin Jr. overcame such conditions to deliver good fantasy numbers in his rookie season, though. So it's possible for at least one Cleveland pass catcher to prove useful.
The problem, of course, is that this offense will make it difficult for more than one guy to do so.
Fannin went quiet in Week 1, posting a 2-21 receiving line on 3 targets. We'll still bet on a rebound for him while tracking the QB performance and target volume.
Boston led the team in Week 1 routes, running on 30 of Watson's 31 dropbacks. Concepcion saw the second-most playing time overall but trailed Jerry Jeudy 25-20 in routes.
I'll be surprised if Jeudy stays ahead of Concepcion in that facet, but Boston's the closest thing to a winner here and the best bet among Browns WRs over the next couple of weeks.
That said, here's hoping you don't need to rely on a Cleveland wideout in your lineup.
