Even in a week where Hampton ranks as the RB6 pending Sunday- and Monday Night Football, his turnover proved costly to the Chargers’ chances to win.
Late in the fourth quarter with less than four minutes remaining, the Chargers were driving down just 3 points before Hampton fumbled on his final rush attempt of the afternoon.
The second-year RB has now fumbled in back-to-back weeks to open the season, but after a rookie season where he fumbled just once across 124 rush attempts, it’s not expected to be an issue going forward.
Hampton accounted for 71.9% of the Chargers’ rush attempts this week after a 57.1% share in Week 1. He should be expected to continue accounting for the majority of the team’s rush attempts, especially after already doing so last year with 50.3%.
The Chargers RB gets a friendly matchup in Week 3 against a Bills defense that allowed the fifth-most rushing yards last season.
