The 49ers are signing WR Brandin Cooks to their practice squad, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Cooks appeared in 10 games for the Saints and 5 for the Bills last year, totaling 24 catches for 279 scoreless yards. He caught another 5 balls for 78 yards in 2 playoff outings for Buffalo.

Cooks turns 33 in a couple of days and is no longer capable of being an offensive focal point. The 49ers simply need healthy bodies at this point after losing WRs Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling, and Demarcus Robinson.
Cooks could work his way into snaps for the Niners but is not worth adding to fantasy rosters.
