Denver Broncos Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Broncos LB Alex Singleton suffered a torn left ACL in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. HC Sean Payton had to confirm the injury after practice Wednesday because Singleton played through it for the rest of the game. The LB later reported soreness, and MRI confirmed the tear. He'll miss the rest of the season. Denver has Cody Barton, Justin Strnad, and Kristian Welch on the roster at non-edge LB. The Broncos also signed LBs Kwon Alexander and Zach Cunningham to the practice squad Wednesday. Barton is the best early bet to lead the group in playing time but is far from a sure thing to maintain that role the rest of the way.

Broncos S Brandon Jones missed much of training camp with a hamstring injury and didn't play in any of the team's three preseason contests. But he said after Sunday's finale that he "should be ready" for the regular-season opener, according to the Denver Gazette. Jones returned to practice last week after sustaining his injury on the first day of camp.

Broncos Edge Baron Browning missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a concussion. That makes him look likely to miss Sunday's game against the Chargers. Fortunately for Denver, Edge Nik Bonitto appears to be trending toward returning after missing the past two games. he followed a limited Wednesday workout with a full practice Thursday. Missing Browning won't be good, but the swap shouldn't mean a significant difference for the Broncos team defense in a high-upside matchup with Easton Stick and the Chargers.

The Texans have claimed S Kareem Jackson off waivers from the Broncos. Denver dumped the twice-suspended veteran, opting to continue with P.J. Locke next to S Justin Simmons. Jackson could see immediate time for a Houston defense that lost Jimmie Ward to a quad injury against the Browns. It's not yet clear how long Ward will be out. We'll watch for specifics on Jackson's Week 17 role.

The league has suspended Broncos S Kareem Jackson four games after a spearing hit he made on Vikings QB Joshua Dobbs on Sunday night. That, of course, follows a suspension earlier this season for three illegal hits in separate games. Jackson got his previous suspension reduced to two games on appeal and has appealed this one as well. It would seem another punishment for the same crime should knock Jackson out for longer. We'll see what happens, though. Jackson didn't get flagged for the hit during the game, which may or may not affect this ruling. Any time Jackson misses should elevate P.J. Locke to the starting role. Locke missed Sunday night's game with an ankle injury that knocked him out of Week 10 early. Delarrin Turner-Yell would seem to be the next guy up if Locke remains out for Week 12.

The league has suspended Broncos S Kareem Jackson for four games because of his love for committing dirty hits. His latest infraction was a "forceful blow to the head/neck area" of Packers TE Luke Musgrave. He previously took similar shots at Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers and Commanders TE Logan Thomas. NFL Network reports that Jackson is appealing the suspension. Expect a quick resolution to that appeal, and we'll see if there's any adjustment to the suspension's length. P.J. Locke filled in after Jackson got ejected from the win over Green Bay. he figures to start while Jackson's out.

Broncos LB Josey Jewell (hip) returned to full practice Thursday. That certainly points to him playing Sunday against the Jets, after missing Week 4. We should get confirmation Friday afternoon, but plan to have Jewell available for your IDP lineups. Jewell's return figures to knock down LB Drew Sanders' playing time. We'll see exactly what the rookie's role looks like, though. He was pegged for an increased role in the Week 3 loss to the Dolphins that Jewell left early with the injury.

Broncos LB Josey Jewell (hip) and S Justin Simmons (hip) each put in limited practices Wednesday. Both players missed Week 4, so we'll need to watch their participation through the week. This marks improvement for Jewell, who missed Wednesday and Thursday practices last week. Simmons opened Week 4 limited as well.

The Broncos are releasing veteran Edge Randy Gregory. That's not an especially impactful IDP move itself. Gregory has just 9 tackles and 1 sack through four games. His playing time dipped the past two weeks, from 64%+ the first two games to 47% and 46% in the last two. The move does remove a hurdle from the outlooks of Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper, who have each seen increases in playing time and good production through four games. Both sit top 15 among D-linemen (depending on your format). Denver does have Frank Clark and Baron Browing approaching injury returns, which will challenge the roles of Cooper and Bonitto. But we'll wait to see how that all shakes out before downgrading the guys currently succeeding. Cooper and Bonitto have climbed up our rest-of-season DL rankings and sit especially high in our Week 5 DL rankings, ahead of a meeting with the Jets.

Broncos LB Josey Jewell left Sunday's loss to the Dolphins with a groin injury. The team downgraded him to out before the end of the contest. That likely doesn't bode well for his chances of being ready for Week 4. We'll watch for more on Jewell's outlook and the potential fill-in plan.

The Broncos have placed Edge Baron Browning on the active/PUP list to start training camp. He had arthroscopic knee surgery late in the spring to treat a partially torn meniscus. We'll see whether Browning will be ready for the start of the regular season. Denver recently signed veteran Edge Frank Clark to reinforce a group that will start Randy Gregory on one side. Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto also stand as options.

The Broncos grabbed LB Drew Sanders in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Sanders bounced around a little before starring as a full-time player for Arkansas in 2022. He earned unanimous All-America recognition after racking up 103 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, 6 passes defensed and 3 forced fumbles. According to Pro Football Focus, Sanders spent 12.8% of his defensive snaps in an edge role last season. He’s not likely to repeat that in the pros. Going to Denver lands him in a defense that already played LB Josey Jewell full time in 2022 and then re-signed LB Alex Singleton in free agency. We'll see whether Sanders can carve out an early role, but don't bet on a significant IDP impact in 2023. Don't be surprised when he falls down our IDP rookie rankings either.

The Broncos have agreed to a three-year deal with DL Zach Allen. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that it's for $45.75 million total, including $32.5 million guaranteed. That comes on the same day that Denver watched DL Dre'Mont Jones get a bit more from Seattle. Allen progressed across four seasons with the Cardinals. He was enjoying his best campaign yet before a hand injury knocked him out for the final four games. Allen's career-high 20 QB hits over just 13 games suggest upside beyond his career-high 5.5 sacks. Allen also tallied a career-high 10 tackles for loss. The move to Denver reunites him with former Cardinals DC Vance Joseph. Allen could emerge as a value pick in 2023 IDP drafts. We like him as a top-30 D-lineman in our dynasty rankings.

The Broncos are re-signing LB Alex Singleton to a three-year, $18 million deal that includes $9 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's a surprising move. Singleton went undrafted in the 2015 draft class and didn't play in an NFL game until 2019. He bounced into and out of the Eagles lineup through 2020 and 2021 before they let him walk. Even last season, his playing time fluctuated throughout the season. Singleton is coming off his best pro season, though, and has been a tackle monster whenever on the field. Fortunately, we fantasy players don't have to worry about whether this is a good move for the Broncos. We can just take advantage of the tackle collection when he's on the field. So Singleton now looks better than expected for dynasty rosters. And he's a candidate for the top 24 when our 2023 IDP rankings roll out.

Broncos EDGE Randy Gregory and Rams G Oday Aboushi had their suspensions reduced to fines on appeal. The league suspended both players 1 game for fighting after Sunday's game. But they'll both be available to their teams for Week 17 now.

The NFL has suspended Broncos EDGE Randy Gregory and Rams G Oday Aboushi for a game after the 2 threw punches at each other after Sunday's game. That means Gregory will miss the final week of the fantasy football season in most leagues, while the Rams will go without a player who spent the past 2 weeks in the starting lineup. That won't help an O-line that has already ranked among the league's worst this season.

Broncos EDGE Baron Browning (hip) is active for today's game against the Raiders.

The Broncos have downgraded S Justin Simmons (knee) to out for today's game against the Titans. P.J. Locke looks like the next man up, with S Caden Sterns on IR. Locke -- in his 3rd season -- has never started an NFL game and thus doesn't make for a terrific IDP option this week.

Broncos S Justin Simons (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans. He missed Wednesday's practice before returning for 2 limited days. We'll see about his status Sunday morning. Denver ruled EDGE Baron Browning (hip) out for the game.

Broncos S Justin Simmons (knee) and EDGE Baron Browning (hip) missed Wednesday's practice, though each was reportedly working on a side field. HC Nathaniel Hackett deemed each player day-to-day afterward, though it's never a good sign to miss the 1st practice coming out of a bye week. EDGE Randy Gregory also worked on a side field but remains on IR. He has been out since Week 4 with a knee injury. "We're going to start working him in, and we're hoping he gets back sooner rather than later," Hackett said, according to the team website. "He's really doing well in the rehab room."
