Bengals OC Jay Gruden confirmed that the team will use more 2-TE sets this year with Tyler Eifert joining Jermaine Gresham on the field.  Cincy used 2 TEs on just 23% of their plays last year.  They went with 3 WRs 53% of the time.  Those numbers could easily flip-flop in 2013.  "It's very easy to take out that third receiver and put a tight end in there and call the same plays," Gruden said. "A lot of it is the same thing. It's a matter of keeping the personnel on the field that you want to dictate. Every year you have a draft and you have some new toys, so things change. You have to adjust."  It sounds like Gruden is essentially treating Eifert as a WR -- good news for his fantasy value.  Meanwhile, slot man Andrew Hawkins figures to see less playing time this year as the Bengals use fewer 3-WR sets.

The Bengals nabbed Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert with the 21st pick of the draft.  It's a surprising landing spot for the athletic pass-catcher.  Cincy already has a reliable TE in Jermaine Gresham.  They'll obviously run more 2-TE sets going forward.  And Eifert can be split out wide or into the slot.  With A.J. Green as the only established WR on the roster, there could be enough balls to go around for both TEs.  Still, it's not an ideal landing spot for Eifert.  We're still sky-high on his long-term fantasy outlook, but he'll struggle to be a weekly starter in 2013.

11:35am EST 12/9/12

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Cowboys.  He put in limited practices on Wednesday and Friday, sandwiched around a day off on Thursday.  While the hamstring makes Gresham a risky fantasy option, he's been a steady producer at a volatile position.  Consider him a low-end TE1 for Week 14.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) is probable for Week 14 after returning to a limited practice on Friday.  While a full practice would have been ideal, the "probable" listing is extremely encouraging.  There's still some risk here after Gresham sat out on Thursday, but he's now a viable fantasy starter in Sunday's game against the Cowboys.  Gresham has scored in 3 of his last 4 games.

After being limited on Wednesday, Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) was held out altogether on Thursday.  We don't have details, but the tea leaves suggest he injured that hammy during Wednesday's practice.  That puts his status in doubt for this weekend's game against the Cowboys.  Check back tomorrow for another update.

As expected, Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (knee) is active for tonight's game against the Ravens.  He practiced all week and should be at or close to 100%.  It's a tough matchup, but Gresham did compile 120 yards in 2 meetings with Baltimore last year.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham is listed as probable after taking part in full practice on Saturday. Gresham has been dealing with a knee sprain since the preseason matchup with Atlanta. He might be slightly less than 100%, but he appears good to go. Gresham enters the season with lots of upside. It might be wise to exercise some caution at least in Week 1, however, if you can. Gresham could prove rusty in his return to game action.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (knee) put in a full practice on Thursday.  He was expected to play Monday night against the Ravens anyways, but a full workout today means Gresham should be at 100%.  Still, he's a shaky fantasy option against a Baltimore squad that was the 2nd-stingiest defense against TEs last year.

Bengals insider Joe Reedy confirms that TE Jermaine Gresham (knee) is expected to play against the Ravens on Monday night.  He's yet to practice since spraining his knee in mid-August though.  We'll have to see how if he's able to get out there later this week, but it's possible that Gresham is limited on Monday night.  You're better off going with a safer option at TE this week.

Bengals OC Jay Gruden loves TE Jermaine Gresham's natural ability.  He compares him to Rob Gronkowski "athletically and talent-wise."  But Gruden also admits that Gresham has a lot of work to do to reach Gronk's level.  He needs to improve his route-running, coverage-reading, and chemistry with QB Andy Dalton.  Gruden also points out that Gresham is a quality blocker.  "He’s still very important as a blocker," Gruden said. "Jermaine’s a good blocker. Fantasy football people forget that."  Add it all up and it looks like Gresham is still at least a year away from a breakout campaign.  He's just a low-end TE1 in fantasy.

Although he's yet to return to the practice field, Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (knee) is expected to be ready for the team's Monday night season opener on September 10th.  Gresham is dealing with a minor knee sprain and is being treated cautiously.  He's part of a deep group of low-end TE1 candidates.  The knee injury makes us rather target guys like Brent Celek, Kyle Rudolph, and Greg Olsen in that range.

The Bengals are calling the knee injury TE Jermaine Gresham suffered in Thursday night's game against the Falcons a sprain.  That's not a very specific diagnosis, so it's tough to say how long Gresham will be sidelined.  We're still 3 weeks away from the season-opener, and we're tentatively expecting Gresham to be ready for that one.  We're not lowering his projections, but keep this injury in mind when considering him as a low-end fantasy starter.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham was forced from Thursday night's preseason game with a knee injury. He limped off the field but was walking around on the sidelines later on. Gresham has a history of knee problems. He tore his left ACL in high school and missed the entire 2009 season at Oklahoma with a knee injury. The fact that the team allowed him back on the sidelines last night is good news, but we'll pass along an update when we get one.

Bengals HC Marvin Lewis believes TE Jermaine Gresham's Pro Bowl appearance last year has made him a more confident player.  "Jermaine going to the Pro Bowl last year was the best teaching, coaching experience we could ever have with him for him to mature," Lewis said. "He's a different man – very, very confident in himself."  QB Andy Dalton agrees, and believes that another year in the offense will result in an even more productive 2012.  "He’s done a good job of coming in and getting a good feel for what’s going on," Dalton said.  "I think definitely he might catch some more balls this year, just from having a little bit better understanding of the offense and what we’re trying to do.”  Gresham's 56-596-6 line last year placed him 13th among TEs in fantasy scoring.  He's certainly capable of besting those marks and finishing among the top-10 in 2012.

11:36am EST 11/13/11

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Steelers.  He was limited in practice all week and probably isn't close to 100%.  He's not a recommended Week 10 fantasy option.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) returned to a limited practice on Friday.  He's listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Steelers.  Reliable beat writer Joe Reedy expects Gresham to play, but he's not a recommended fantasy option.

After putting in a limited workout on Wednesday, Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) was held out on Thursday.  Sounds like he suffered a setback.  Owners shouldn't be counting on using Gresham this weekend.  We'll have another update on his status tomorrow.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday.  He's expected to play against the Steelers this week as long as he doesn't suffer a setback over the next couple days.  Gresham won't be a recommended fantasy start in that matchup.

2:40pm EST 11/6/11

As expected, Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) is inactive for today's game against the Titans.  TE Donald Lee will start in his place but isn't a fantasy option.

Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy doesn't expect TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) to be available for Sunday's game against the Titans.  Gresham injured the hamstring last Friday and hasn't been able to practice since.  TE Donald Lee will step in as Cincinnati's #1 TE, but he's nowhere near a fantasy option.
