New Browns HC Todd Monken says he's "intrigued" by a QB already on the Cleveland roster ... and it's not a guy who played for the team in 2025. The coach used that description for Deshaun Watson at his opening news conference. And Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports that Monken and Watson are "eager" to work together. The QB last played in Week 7 of 2024, when a torn Achilles' tendon ended his season. Watson spent most of this past season still working back from the injury, gaining clearance for football activity in November.
Former Ravens OC Todd Monken was hired as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Monken has been with the Ravens since 2023, serving as the team’s offensive coordinator under QB Lamar Jackson. He was also a member of the Browns’ staff in 2019, working as offensive coordinator under HC Freddie Kitchens.
The Browns on Monday fired HC Kevin Stefanski after six seasons. Cleveland went 44-56 in the regular season across those years, making the playoffs twice and winning a playoff game in Stefanski's debut campaign. The past two seasons, however, have seen the Browns go 3-14 and 4-12. An official statement from team ownership specifically blamed those records for the firing. GM Andrew Berry, however, remains in his role. Berry assumed GM duties in the same offseason in which Stefanski arrived.
Last week, Shedeur Sanders had his signature breakout performance, accounting for 393 total yards and 4 TDs against the Titans and being named the Browns' starter for the remainder of the season. But Sanders plummeted back to Earth against Chicago's opportunistic defense in Week 15. Sanders completed 18 of 35 attempts for 177 yards, 0 TDs, and 3 INTs in Cleveland's 31-3 loss.
Browns HC Kevin Stefanski says QB Shedeur Sanders will start for the rest of the season.
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders threw for 364 yards and 3 TDs in Sunday's loss to the Titans, rushing for 29 yards and another score on three attempts. Sanders hit TE David Njoku for a 1-yard score early in the second quarter and WR Jerry Jeudy for a 60-yard catch-and-run TD later in the quarter while going a mere 9-of-14 passing for the first half. He went 14-of-28 in a second half that found Cleveland falling behind by two touchdowns. He hit TE Harold Fannin Jr. for the final TD near the end of the team. The team then took Sanders off the field for the ensuing 2-point conversion, which failed miserably after a Wildcat snap to RB Quinshon Judkins.
The forecast for today's 49ers-Browns game calls for sustained winds of 25 mph with gusts around 35 mph. The total in this game has dropped from 42.5 to 35.5. Expect a run-heavy game plan from both sides. RBs Christian McCaffrey and Quinshon Judkins can stay in fantasy lineups. TE George Kittle is the only comfortable play from either passing game. Avoid the kickers.
Browns HC Kevin Stefanski said Monday that QB Dillon Gabriel has cleared the concussion protocol but that Shedeur Sanders will maintain the No. 1 QB role for next Sunday's home date with the 49ers. Sanders threw for 209 yards and a TD in Sunday's win over the Raiders, becoming the first Cleveland QB to win his starting debut since Eric Zeier in 1995.
Browns RB Quinshon Judkins went 16-47-2 against the Raiders, averaging just 2.9 yards per carry. The Raiders defense shut down the run for most of he game, but Judkins was able to score on 8- and 2-yard runs early in the game. After those TDs, he did not have much of an impact in the game. He did make multiple trips to the injury tent in the fourth quarter.
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders will start Sunday's game vs. the Raiders, HC Kevin Stefanski announced. QB Dillon Gabriel remains in the concussion protocol. Sanders was a disaster in his first regular-season appearance this past week, completing four of 16 passes for 47 yards, 0 TDs, and one INT. He also took two sacks and fumbled once. He'll get the benefit of a full week of practice heading into this weekend's game, but we don't expect him to fare much better. Vegas' DST is a strong Week 12 fantasy play.
Browns QB Dillon Gabriel sustained a concussion in the first half of Sunday's game vs. the Ravens. QB Shedeur Sanders started the second half and will finish out this game. We'll track Gabriel's progress through the protocol this week, but this remains a QB room to avoid in all fantasy formats.
The Bengals are acquiring QB Joe Flacco from the Browns for a swap of late-round picks, according to multiple reports.
Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Bengals "would like" Flacco to start this weekend's game vs. the Packers. "The veteran Flacco is expected to be a quick learner," Schefter adds. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but we'll project Flacco to get the start for now.
Browns QB Joe Flacco stunk in Sunday's loss at Detroit. He went just 16-of-34 passing with no TDs and a pair of INTs. One came on a legitimately nice catch by Lions CB D.J. Reed after WR Jerry Jeudy went down near the sideline. The other looked like a ball that volunteered to sacrifice itself, floating well beyond anyone wearing the same color as the aged QB. Flacco also took three sacks and lost a fumble. His 184 yards marked a third straight game south of 200. Flacco has also finished three straight games short of 59% completion rates, totaled 6 INTs across his four outings, and decreased his passer rating every week:
The Browns are sending QB Kenny Pickett to the Raiders for a fifth-round pick, according to multiple sources. That recoups the pick Cleveland sent to the Eagles to acquire Pickett earlier this offseason.
Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders suffered an oblique strain during Wednesday's practice. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sanders will not practice Thursday and is unlikely to play in Cleveland’s second preseason game against the Eagles.
