Tyrann Mathieu Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Chiefs S Tyrann Mathieu is expected to play today against the Dolphins, despite being questionable with a hip issue, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Mathieu sits low in our Week 14 DB rankings.

The Chiefs have reached a 3-year deal with S Tyrann Mathieu for $42 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. We'll see exactly how Mathieu fits into Kansas City's defense. He's capable of playing either safety spot and/or slot CB. Mathieu has proved capable of contributing worthwhile fantasy numbers in Arizona and Houston so far, though his scoring has relied on big plays. Mathieu looks like a lower-level DB2, but we'll see what K.C. reveals about his role.

The Cardinals have placed DB Tyrann Mathieu on IR. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury for weeks and made his way slowly back from last December's double-ligament tear early in the year. We'll keep an eye on Mathieu this offseason for signs that he might return to his old effectiveness level. We rarely saw that from him, so his absence doesn't alter an already-dim outlook for the Arizona team defense in fantasy football for Week 16.

The Cardinals have ruled DB Tyrann Mathieu out for Sunday's game at Miami, the 4the game he will have missed among the past 5. AZCentral.com reports that Mathieu and the team are considering surgery on the injured shoulder, though HC Bruce Arians said he doesn't believe it will be necessary. Mathieu has reportedly been improving and regaining his range of motion in the joint but obviously not enough yet to return to game action.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) is doubtful for Sunday's game against Washington, with the injury that already cost him a couple of games. His absence hurts the Arizona team D and helps the outlook for Washington slot WR Jamison Crowder -- who could also see his volume helped by TE Jordan Reed being out with a shoulder injury.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) is active for today's game against the Falcons after missing the past 2 contests. He's still a low-floor IDP option who has spent the season dealing with multiple issues.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim told 98.7 FM in Phoenix that "there's a good chance" DB Tyrann Mathieu will be ready to play Sunday at Atlanta. Mathieu has missed the past 2 games with a shoulder injury.

Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) is active for today's game against the Vikings. He carries some re-injury risk, however, after he only managed a limited workout Friday following 2 days on the sideline. DB Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) is out for the 2nd straight game despite some optimism during the week that he'd be ready to play.

Cardinals LB Deone Bucannon (ankle) and DB Tyrann Mathieu (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday's game against Minnesota. Bucannon returned for a limited practice Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday. Mathieu put in limited workouts all week after missing just the Week 10 game against the Niners (following an initial 3-4 week timetable on his injury). We'll check on the status for each player Sunday, though neither looks like a strong IDP option for Week 11 even if active.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu put in a limited practice Wednesday after missing Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. The Arizona Republic reports that it's not yet clear whether we can expect Mathieu to play in Week 11. IDP owners should look elsewhere even if he returns. LB Deone Bucannon missed Wednesday's workout with an ankle issue. We'll see about his status throughout the week. Bucannon didn't miss any snaps in the win over the Niners.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said Monday that DB Tyrann Mathieu will get cleared to return this week from the shoulder injury that kept him out of Sunday's win over the Niners, according to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. “We’ll just see how he is,” Arians said. “His strength’s back. It’s good. He’ll be cleared to go. I just want to see him practice and see how he looks.” Mathieu was given a 3-6 week timeline after suffering a shoulder subluxation in the Week 8 loss at Carolina, so returning for the Week 11 trip to Minnesota would come at the earliest end of that. We'll see if Mathieu gets right back into game action and whether Arizona limits his role in his return. His often-sluggish fantasy production this season makes it worth waiting to see him in action before using Mathieu in your IDP lineups.

So much for the hope that he wouldn't miss any time. Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu is expected to miss 3-6 weeks with the shoulder injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game at Carolina, according to the team website. With a bye this week, that figures to cost Mathieu at least the games against San Francisco and Minnesota. We'll see beyond that.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder (meaning it popped out of socket) in Sunday's loss to Carolina. The Week 9 bye, however, might keep Mathieu from missing any further game time. We'll check in on him heading into Week 10.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu left in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's loss to the Panthers after suffering a left shoulder injury. We'll see about his status this week.

The Cardinals on Tuesday placed S Tyvon Branch on IR with the same groin injury that knocked RB Chris Johnson out. One of those 2 could come off after 8 games, of course, as the "designated to return" player. HC Bruce Arians told the team website that the recovery timelines of the 2 will help to decide which -- if either -- gains the designation. IDP owners should go ahead and dump Branch in the meantime. Tyrann Mathieu will regain his slot cover duties this week to take over part of what Branch was doing. D.J. Swearinger figures to see more time as well, but Mathieu and Tony Jefferson are the fantasy factors.

It appears the Cardinals are ready to let DB Tyrann Mathieu jump back into the starting lineup Sunday night against the Patriots. Mathieu didn't even appear on Wednesday's injury report despite spending nearly all of the offseason and camp on the sideline. "I expect him to be out there full speed, ready to roll (against the Patriots)," coach Bruce Arians told the team website last week. Arians reiterated that stance over the weekend, telling azcardinals.com's Darren Urban that he expects Mathieu to be available for "every single play." We'll see just how strong Mathieu looks in his 1st action since last December's ACL tear, but it looks like less of a risk to use him in your IDP lineup than we'd have guessed.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu practiced Sunday for the 1st time since tearing his right ACL in December. According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, HC Bruce Arians had planned to have Mahtieu, CB Justin Bethel and DE Frostee Rucker participate only in positional drills. But Mathieu said he decided to push it by also taking part in 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s. Mathieu said he was "real surprised" with what he was able to do. "I didn't feel any pain. I didn't really get tight at all," Mathieu said. "I was surprised with where I was at, but I was also pleased with what I've been doing." Mathieu said he thinks he can be ready for Week 1. We'll see how things go over the next couple of weeks. Mathieu's return gets in the way of S Tony Jefferson's fill-in work, though Mathieu's split duty between FS and slot CB could leave room for Jefferson to be an early fantasy option as well.
