What You Need to Know:

  • Baltimore let 31.9% of last year’s WR target share leave by trading away Marquise Brown (23.9%) and not re-signing Sammy Watkins (8.0%).
  • Duvernay claimed 7.7% target share in his 2nd season, nearly doubling his target total from his rookie campaign (from 26 to 47).
  • His slot rate increased over his rookie year, from 47.3% of pass snaps to 60.8%. Willie Snead’s departure was key, leaving extra slot snaps available.
  • James Proche looks like Duvernay’s primary competition for that spot going forward. Proche – who arrived in the same draft but 3 rounds later – ran 86.4% of his routes from the slot in 2021 but got about one-third of Duvernay’s playing time.
  • After Baltimore traded away WR Marquise Brown on the 1st night of the NFL Draft, HC John Harbaugh told reporters that Duvernay “made a jump” in his 2nd season and that “his best has yet to come.”
  • Duvernay closed his college career with a 106-1,386-9 senior-year receiving line. He then ran a 4.39-second 40 at the 2020 Scouting Combine.
  • WRs who went later than Duvernay in the 2020 draft included: Gabriel Davis, Tyler Johnson, Darnell Mooney, K.J. Osborn and Donovan Peoples-Jones.
  • The closest thing to a significant name the Ravens have added at WR this offseason has been undrafted free agent Slade Bolden, a slot type from Alabama.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Duvernay looks like a good bet for a significant bump in playing time and target share. The Ravens now sport little beyond TE Mark Andrews in terms of proven pass-catchers. Duvernay’s best fit might be in the slot, but he has experience both inside and out and brings speed that can translate anywhere. Barring a jump from his late-round ADP, Duvernay looks like all upside as a 2022 fantasy prospect. He’s a particularly attractive addition to a best-ball roster that already has Lamar Jackson.

Duvernay expected to miss 2 months

Ravens WR Devin Duvernay is expected to be sidelined for about 2 months after breaking a bone in his foot during Tuesday's practice, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Duvernay is out for the rest of the regular season and playoffs but is expected to make a full recovery for 2023, per Rapoport. Baltimore is down to WRs Demarcus Robinson, DeSean Jackson, Sammy Watkins and James Proche.

Ravens WR Devin Duvernay has been placed on IR with a foot injury he suffered in Tuesday's practice. It's unclear if he has a shot to return when first eligible for the Divisional Round of the playoffs, but his regular season is over. Baltimore added WR Sammy Watkins in a corresponding move. Watkins spent last season with the Ravens but mustered just a 27-394-1 line across 13 games. He looked equally washed with the Packers this season. Watkins joins Demarcus Robinson, DeSean Jackson and James Proche in the WR corps.
