Jets RB Isaiah Davis will miss "a couple of weeks" with what the team website calls a "minor" knee injury. That comes amid a competition between Davis and Braelon Allen for touches behind starter Breece Hall. And HC Aaron Glenn had some nice things to say about Allen on Thursday.

The Jets opened OTAs with both Garrett Wilson and Braelon Allen participating, and both will remain full participants moving forward. Wilson was a full participant after missing 10 games last season with a persistent knee injury. Allen had knee surgery after spraining his left MCL in Week 4 and missed the rest of the season.

The Jets will place RB Braelon Allen (knee) on IR today, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. Allen's knee injury is still being evaluated, per Cimini, and surgery remains on the table. "Too early to say if it's season-ending, though this appears to be more than just a 4-week return," Cimini adds.

Update: Allen is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, HC Aaron Glenn said Friday. That puts Allen out through at least Week 12. He can be dropped in all redraft leagues.

Jets RB Braelon Allen will "likely" land on IR with an MCL sprain suffered in Monday night's loss to the Dolphins, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Allen is expected to receive additional opinions," Rapoport adds. We'll see if those additional opinions bring any better news, but expect Allen to miss multiple weeks. That'll leave the Jets backfield to Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis. Davis should pick up extra work with Allen out but will still fall short of reliable fantasy value. He's worth stashing in deeper fantasy leagues, though, as he's now just one injury away from a lead job. Hall becomes a borderline RB1 with Allen sidelined.

And there was optimism about his status throughout the weekend. We’d still be surprised if Hall handled his normal workload for a Jets team with nothing to play for. Remember that Hall tallied just 12 carries and one target playing through this knee injury back in Week 13. He checks in as a low-end RB2 in the Week 15 Rankings.

Hall did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, so it's safe to assume he's still not at 100%. We're frankly surprised that the Jets would play Hall in this meaningless game -- and would be even more surprised if he handles a big workload. Hall tallied just 12 carries and one target playing through this knee injury back in Week 13. Consider him no better than a risky RB2 in Week 15 fantasy lineups, despite the plus matchup. Hall's return knocks RBs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis out of consideration.

Jets interim HC Jeff Ulbrich said Wednesday that RB Breece Hall is "struggling a bit" with his knee injury. “Maybe it’s not improving as much as he’d like, at this point," Ulbrich added. "We’ll see how it goes this week.” We'll keep you posted on Hall's progress over the next few days, but fantasy owners should not be counting on him playing in a meaningless game vs. the Jaguars on Sunday. Allen is a good bet to lead in carries, but this Jets coaching staff seems to like what Davis has given them lately. He could be more involved than expected.

The Jets took Wisconsin RB Braelon Allen in Round 4 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Allen is the youngest player in this entire draft class, turning just 20 back in January. He exploded as a 17-year-old true freshman in 2021, running for 1,268 yards and 12 TDs on 6.8 yards per carry. But by most measures, that was his best season at Wisconsin. Allen topped 1,200 rushing yards again in 2022, but his yards per carry, yards after contact per carry, and missed tackles forced per attempt all sunk from the previous season. Then his usage and production took a hit in a pass-heavier Wisconsin offense last year. Allen carried 181 times for 984 yards (5.4 YPC) and 12 TDs. He at least rebounded in yards after contact per attempt, ranking 29th among 157 qualifiers. But Allen ranked just 97th among those 157 RBs with a career-worst 78.6 Pro Football Focus rushing grade. The burly 6’1, 235-pounder runs with good vision and has better long speed than you’d expect. But he doesn’t always play to his size and doesn’t possess much wiggle. It’s also worth noting that Allen suffered shoulder, right leg, and left ankle injuries, plus a concussion, during his three years at Wisconsin. Allen joins a Jets backfield that will be dominated by Breece Hall for the foreseeable future. The rookie will duke it out with 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda for scraps.
