        Commanders dump McKissic

        8:19pm UTC 3/14/23

The Commanders released RB J.D. McKissic. The move saves just $1.3 million against the 2023 cap, so it's not much of a cost-cutting move. McKissic has suffered season-ending neck injuries the past 2 years and turns 30 in August. We'll see when and where he signs next, but McKissic is no more than an end-of-draft shot in PPR best-ball leagues.

        McKissic to IR

        12:58pm UTC 11/19/22

Commanders RB J.D. McKissic (neck) has been placed on IR and will miss the rest of the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. McKissic's injury requires "a few months of rehab," per Rapoport. Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson will continue to handle backfield duties for Washington.

        McKissic out Thursday

        8:21pm UTC 11/10/22

Commanders RB J.D. McKissic (neck) remained sidelined on Thursday. He was reportedly set to visit a specialist for that neck injury, but we haven't heard an update on his status. McKissic seems iffy for Monday night's game vs. the Eagles. His absence would be a boost for RB Antonio Gibson.

        McKissic out for Week 9

        12:52pm UTC 11/4/22

Commanders RB J.D. McKissic (neck) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Vikings. He's set to visit a specialist for that neck injury, so there's a chance he misses more time beyond Week 9. McKissic has averaged 2.8 carries and 5.0 targets per game this season. His absence is a particular boost for RB Antonio Gibson's target projection.

        McKissic sidelined Wednesday

        2:27pm UTC 11/2/22

Commanders RB J.D. McKissic (neck) did not practice on Wednesday. We don't have any other details at this point, but it's worth noting that McKissic missed the final 6 games of last season with a neck injury. If he can't play vs. Minnesota this weekend, RB Antonio Gibson would pick up extra passing-game work.

        Robinson hitting active roster

        8:35am UTC 10/8/22

The Commanders are activating RB Brian Robinson Jr. from the non-football injury list. The rookie will make his NFL debut in Sunday's game against the Titans. We wouldn't use him right away in fantasy football lineups, barring a clear message from Washington coaches that Robinson is headed for a backfield-leading share of opportunities. His return does knock Antonio Gibson down the Week 5 RB rankings, though, and take a little off J.D. McKissic's projection.

        McKissic likely done for season

        4:05pm UTC 12/21/21

Washington has placed RB J.D. McKissic on IR for the neck injury that stemmed from the same hit that gave him a concussion. With 4 games left in the season -- including tonight's visit to Philadelphia -- McKissic is likely done for the year. That elevates Jaret Patterson to the #2 spot on the depth chart behind Antonio Gibson, who should see workhorse touches the rest of the way. Washington also elevated QB Kyle Shurmur from the practice squad ahead of the Eagles game. He'll back up Garrett Gilbert.

        McKissic has concussion

        7:28pm UTC 12/1/21

Washington RB J.D. McKissic did not practice on Wednesday and is on the injury report with a concussion. He'd previously been announced with a neck injury. McKissic seems unlikely to play vs. the Raiders this weekend, which would be a significant boost for RB Antonio Gibson.

        McKissic leaves with neck injury

        7:43am UTC 11/30/21

Washington RB J.D. McKissic suffered a neck injury in the 4th quarter of Monday night's game vs. the Seahawks and was carted back to the locker room. HC Ron Rivera didn't have an update afterward, but QB Taylor Heinicke said McKissic was walking around the locker room. We'll pass along an update when we get one. McKissic's absence would free up passing-game work for RB Antonio Gibson.

        Gibson struggles with shin injury

        4:44pm UTC 10/17/21

Washington RB Antonio Gibson was in and out of Sunday's game vs. the Chiefs with trouble with the stress fracture in his shin. "We'll see how he is," HC Ron Rivera said afterward. "We did take him out of the game because he was struggling with it. ... We'll see how he is tomorrow morning." This issue figures to linger throughout the season for Gibson. RBs J.D. McKissic and Jaret Patterson could both be in for expanded roles at some point.
