        Titans Changing Play Callers

Titans HC Brian Callahan is handing off play-calling duties to QBs coach Bo Hardegree. It's an interesting decision to go with Hardegree rather than OC Nick Holz. The Titans offense has been a mess through three games, ranking 28th in points, 31st in total yards, and dead last in yards per play. The offensive line has struggled with injuries to OT J.C. Latham and G Kevin Zeitler, while WR Calvin Ridley has been far too quiet. Hardegree's only play-calling experience came in nine games for the 2023 Raiders as interim OC. That team averaged 22.9 points per game under Hardegree -- up from 15.8 over the first eight games. We'll see what Hardegree does for the Titans going forward, but it's tough to imagine the offense getting any worse. The unit should at least benefit from an easier schedule after Week 4. Tennessee has opened with a gauntlet of defenses: Broncos, Rams, Colts, Texans.

Tyjae Spears Out First Four Games

The Titans are placing RB Tyjae Spears on IR, knocking him out for the first four games of the season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Spears suffered a high-ankle sprain in Tennessee's preseason opener on August 9. It was obviously a significant injury to land him on IR. Spears was still in a walking boot this past weekend.

        Tyjae Spears Hurt In Preseason

Titans RB Tyjae Spears suffered an apparent lower-body injury in Saturday's preseason game. He was able to limp off the field but was eventually carted back to the locker room. We'll update Spears' status when we know more. A significant injury would be a big boost to RB Tony Pollard's fantasy stock.

Tony Pollard Questionable For Week 16

Titans RB Tony Pollard (ankle) did not practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Colts. He’s been playing through injuries for much of the season, but this is seemingly the worst shape he’s been in. Pollard will be a risky fantasy play if he ends up active. If not, RB Tyjae Spears figures to handle most of the backfield work and would be a viable fantasy start.

        Tony Pollard Sidelined Wednesday

Titans RB Tony Pollard (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. He appeared to aggravate this ankle injury early in last week's game but was able to return. We're tentatively expecting him to play vs. the Colts this weekend but will continue to monitor his status. RB Tyjae Spears should be rostered in virtually all fantasy leagues in case Pollard ends up missing one of these last few games.

        Tony Pollard Aggravates Ankle Injury

Titans RB Tony Pollard is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bengals with an ankle injury. This is presumably an aggravation of the issue that had him questionable coming in. We'll update Pollard's status when we know more. His absence leaves Tyjae Spears as Tennessee's lead back.

Update: Pollard returned with about five minutes left in the first half.

Tony Pollard Questionable For Week 15

Titans RB Tony Pollard (ankle) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Bengals. He only got in a limited practice on Friday. Pollard has been playing through injuries for much of the season, and we’re tentatively expecting him to play against Cincinnati. But the ankle issue adds risk to his fantasy profile. If Pollard ends up sitting, RB Tyjae Spears would control backfield work and be a viable fantasy start.

Tyjae Spears Will Play Week 10

Titans RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring) practiced all week and is off the final injury report. He’ll play vs. the Chargers on Sunday for the first time since Week 6. Spears averaged 6.8 carries and 3.0 targets per game over the first four weeks of the season, so he'd be a desperation Week 10 fantasy start. But his return is a slight ding to RB Tony Pollard's outlook.

        Tony Pollard Sees Huge Workload

So much for the foot injury that kept Titans RB Tony Pollard out of practice Wednesday-Friday. The former Cowboy handled 31 touches for 154 yards in an OT win over New England.

Tony Pollard & Tyjae Spears Out Thursday

Titans RBs Tony Pollard (foot) and Tyjae Spears (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday. It's Pollard's second straight missed practice, while Spears was a limited participant on Wednesday. We'll see how these guys are listed on Friday's final injury report, RB Julius Chestnut is the next man up for Tennessee.

        Tyjae Spears Hurts Hamstring

Titans RB Tyjae Spears suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's game vs. the Colts. He's officially questionable to return. Spears' absence will leave RB Tony Pollard in an every-down role.

Tony Pollard, Tyjae Spears, Combine for 127 Rush Yards

Titans RB Tyjae Spears set season highs in carries (15) and yards (39) in Monday’s win over Miami. But Tony Pollard again led the backfield, this time with 88 yards on 22 carries. Tennessee lost QB Will Levis to injury in the first quarter and nursed a lead throughout the game. That produced 37 total team RB attempts.

Tyjae Spears Back At Practice Thursday

Titans RB Tyjae Spears (ankle) returned to a limited practice on Thursday. That seemingly puts him on track to play vs. the Packers this weekend, but we'll see how Spears is listed on the final injury report tomorrow. He'd be no better than a low-end RB3 if he suits up, but he'd siphon touches from lead back Tony Pollard.

Tyjae Spears "Day-To-Day" With Ankle Injury

Titans RB Tyjae Spears is considered "day-to-day" with the ankle injury suffered in Week 2, HC Brian Callahan said Monday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called Spears' injury "nothing major." It's good news, although Spears' availability for this weekend's game vs. the Packers remains uncertain. We'll keep you updated on his status throughout the week. Spears' absence would turn RB Tony Pollard into an every-down back.

        Tony Pollard Carries the Load

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Titans HC Brian Callahan said he wanted a closer workload split between RBs Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears. But with Spears leaving Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury, Pollard again finished as the clear lead back with 21 touches.

Titans think Tony Pollard a better Tyjae Spears?

Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston reports that the Titans are expected to sign RB Tony Pollard. That'll be a surprising move for a team that drafted RB Tyjae Spears in Round 3 last year -- and a GM who talked him up at the Combine. Pollard's coming off a disappointing season in his first turn as Dallas' lead back. But it has since been reported that he spent much of 2023 still working back from his end-of-2022 leg injury. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Tennessee is giving Pollard a three-year, $24 million deal. That obviously positions Pollard as the Titans' new lead back and crushes Spears' 2024 upside. Unfortunately, you'll probably have to hang on to the second-year runner rather than sell low in dynasty. Pollard has been going RB22 in Underdog Fantasy ADP -- four spots behind Spears in positional ADP. Expect both those numbers to change. Pollard should remain a fine best ball target at least up to RB15 range. Check our updated RB rankings to see where he and Spears settle.

Derrick Henry finds the end zone in Week 2

Titans RB Derrick Henry saw 25 carries for 80 yards and 1 TD in Week 2’s win vs. the Chargers. He also roped in 3 of 4 targets for 15 receiving yards in the contest. There’s still a massive gap between Henry’s involvement and the workload of rookie Tyjae Spears (10 touches, 55 total yards). Barring injury or a massive unforeseen shift in offensive philosophy, fantasy managers can once again count on Henry to be a significant contributor in Week 3 vs. the Browns.
