Shark Bites

The Athletic's Adam Jahns expects the Bears offense to feature more deep passes this season. "[HC Matt] Nagy’s offense has always been vertical," Jahns writes. "His practices in the offseason program and camp have featured plenty of shots down the field, including this year with [Andy] Dalton and [Justin] Fields in OTAs and minicamp. Nagy wants to be aggressive down the field. It’s in his playbook and in his nature as a coach and play-caller." QB Mitchell Trubisky struggled throwing deep over the past few seasons -- but it's a strength of Fields' game. More deep shots would be particularly good news for speedy WR Darnell Mooney.

Recent Shark Bites

Bears QB Justin Fields missed a couple of snaps in Sunday's win over the Raiders with what's been diagnosed as a hyperextended left knee. After further testing on Monday, Fields "should be good to go" for this weekend's game vs. the Packers, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Fields has played well the past 2 weeks but hasn't done enough to be a fantasy asset.

Bears HC Matt Nagy announced Wednesday that Justin Fields will remain the starting QB, despite Andy Dalton being ready to return this week. It's fair to wonder whether this decision actually came from Nagy and the coaching staff or higher up, but it doesn't really matter. The rookie remains the QB with the higher fantasy ceiling, even though he has yet to display it. He rebounded for 209 passing yards on just 17 attempts against the Lions in Week 4, coming off the dreadful Week 3 at Cleveland. But Fields will need to show us more before we can reasonably start him in 1-QB redraft lineups. David Montgomery's knee injury might force Chicago into a bit more passing volume over the next month.

Bears QB Justin Fields took 9 sacks in his 1st career start in Cleveland on Sunday. He finished 6-of-20 for 68 yards passing -- and ran for only 12 yards. Fields needed an X-ray on 1 of his hands after the game, which came back clean. That's the only good news to come out of this one. Fields seems likely to get another start next week but will be impossible to trust in fantasy lineups -- even in a great matchup vs. the Lions.

Bears HC Matt Nagy officially named QB Justin Fields his starter for Sunday's game vs. the Browns. Nagy reiterated that QB Andy Dalton will get the job back when healthy -- but you have to imagine that Fields can change that if he plays well and wins games. The rookie was up and down as a passer in relief of Dalton in Week 2 but continued to flash elite rushing ability. It's that rushing production that makes him an immediate lower-end QB1 in fantasy lineups.

Bears QB Justin Fields is expected to see "increased snaps" in today's game vs. the Bengals, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Fields is growing every day," Rapoport adds. "There are 'wow' moments, 'wow' throws every single day in practice." The rookie played 5 snaps in the opener, completing both of his passes for 10 yards and scoring a 3-yard rushing TD. It's only a matter of time before he takes over as Chicago's starter. Current starter Andy Dalton obviously shouldn't be in Week 2 fantasy lineups.
