Fantasy Football League Names: Make Your League Stand Out

Choose a Name to Take Your League to the Next Level

Deciding on a new fantasy football league name can be one of the hardest parts of setting up a league.

Do you want a funny fantasy football league name to make your leaguemates laugh every time they set their lineup?

Or do you want to pick a memorable theme that makes your league stand out?

Before you can draft, you NEED to have a name picked out and ready to go.

If you're not sure where to host your league, let us help:

Check out our list of Best Fantasy Football Websites to make the decision easier.

Fantasy Football League Names Are Important

Making your league name unique will keep it at the forefront of your leaguemates' minds.

If a name or theme turns a league into a favorite among the participants, it can cement it as the “first stop” for a fantasy manager.

This leads to a more active league regarding trading, waivers, and setting lineups.

You can even name the league something like “Trade Addicts” or “Waiver Warriors” to promote more trading or waiver activity.

A name can make or break the long-term success of your league.

Got your league name? Let's nail down that Draft Strategy

Method #1: Pick A Theme

If there is a shared interest among the league, choosing a theme will keep everyone invested.

Whether it be a TV Show, movie franchise, video game, or even a meme, a theme to rally around makes a league fun and memorable.

Every manager can choose a team name referencing the theme that was chosen. The jokes and memes throughout the season will also write themselves.

Here are some examples of themed league names:

  • Michael Scott’s Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am League For The Cure (The Office)
  • Multiverse of NFL Madness (Marvel)
  • Game of Fantasy Thrones
  • Hell In A Cell (WWE)
  • Hogwarts League of Witchcraft & Wizardry (Harry Potter)
  • Best League Ever (SpongeBob SquarePants)
  • A League Far Far Away (Star Wars)
  • Super Tecmo Legends (Tecmo Bowl)

Speaking of which, why not get a leg up before you even decide on a name?

Method #2: Connect to League Settings

If your league has a unique league setting, naming the league around that setting can be strategic.

Seeing the name will remind the league that this league is different and allow the managers to categorize it in their minds.

For example, I participate in a dynasty league named The Dirty 30 where we have 30 roster spots. When I click on that league, I am always reminded of the roster size.

The same commissioner has a dynasty league named “Old School” with smaller roster sizes and TD-centered scoring.

Take whatever is unique about your league (IDP, Auction, Scoring) and center your league name around it!
