Rough set of performances for the picks in this space last week (as you’ll see below). Let’s try to make up for it by jumping right into some stronger selections for Week 2.
This one’s close between Dalton and Derek Carr, who sits higher in our Week 2 QB rankings. So I’ll let the drastic difference in their owned rate sway my selection.
Despite throwing for 418 yards and 2 TDs at Seattle in Week 1, Dalton remains barely owned. Derek Carr finds himself widely available as well after a solid Monday night, but he’s already rostered in 31% of ESPN leagues as of this writing.
I already considered Dalton a more solid fantasy QB than his projection/ranking indicated entering 2019. The big concern came when A.J. Green suffered his foot injury. Is there enough left? John Ross says yes.
Now Dalton and the Bengals head back home to face a 49ers defense that tied or most TD passes allowed in 2018 and rated 27th in Football Outsiders’ pass-defense efficiency. That didn’t help Jameis Winston last week, but I’m pinning that more on Winston and the Bucs for now than I am crediting San Francisco.
Last week’s pick: Jimmy Garoppolo (QB31 finish)
