Here's Mahomes on the Chiefs' playoff hopes following the loss (via NFL.com).

"We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have every opportunity they get," Mahomes said. "You're just getting late in the season, and you're not going to get these opportunities back. That's a good team, but we had chances. We didn't execute at the right time to win it."

Let’s start with some context.

Mahomes lost LT Wanya Morris to a knee injury on the first play of the game. That -- plus two other O-line absences -- certainly played a role in Mahomes seeing pressure on nearly 43% of his dropbacks. After all, they faced an elite Houston pass rush.

Kansas City pass catchers also struggled with drops, as Pro Football Focus charted them with a season-high five.

Mahomes’ ball placement simply wasn’t consistent. We saw that on his 35-yard deep ball to Hollywood Brown, who had to slow up and dive back toward the line of scrimmage to make the catch. If thrown in stride, it could have gone for a game-changing score. 

Later, Mahomes severely underthrew Brown for an INT.

The 30-year-old will remain a QB1 option for a Week 15 home date with the Chargers. But it’s clear he brings volatility, with three games at 18 or fewer fantasy points over his past five.
