Titans Give Robert Saleh Another Shot

The Titans have chosen 49ers DC Robert Saleh to become the next head coach, according to multiple reports. Saleh's 2025 in San Francisco followed 3+ seasons as the head man for the Jets. He went 20-36 over that span, topping out at 7-10 in both 2022 and 2023. New York dumped him after five games in 2024. Before that, Saleh coordinated the San Francisco defense for another four years, beginning with Kyle Shanahan's first year at the helm (2017).

        What They're Saying

ESPN's Turron Davenport: "Titans GM Mike Borgonzi ultimately made the decision to hire Robert Saleh. Monday's visit swayed the decision in Saleh's favor. Saleh impressed Borgonzi and the group enough to conclude he was the best candidate for the job."

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo: "Expect new Titans HC Robert Saleh to call defensive plays this time around. ... Saleh felt not calling plays as Jets coach disconnected him from the game too much. Came to the realization he'd do it differently next time."

(Update) SNY's Connor Hughes: "There was talk early on that Robert Saleh, had he gotten another head coaching opportunity, wanted to take Mike McDaniel with him as offensive coordinator, I'm told. The two worked together in San Francisco."

        Fantasy Football Impact

That's probably good news for the Tennessee defense. Saleh enjoyed a good overall run as San Francisco's coordinator. That's less obvious after the Niners D rated weak in 2025, but the team dealt with myriad injuries. Most notably, Edge Nick Bosa tore an ACL in Week 3, and LB Fred Warner went down in Week 6.

The Titans could use some more defensive pieces -- particularly in the secondary -- but also sport some interesting young defenders such as LB Cedric Gray and Edge Oluwafemi Oladejo.

Saleh seems likely to head in a new direction for his OC. Mike LaFleur served in that role over Saleh's first two Jets seasons before getting canned in favor of Nathaniel Hackett.

LaFleur has spent the past three years in that same role for the Rams. Hackett likely got brought in to help court QB Aaron Rodgers.

We'll see how Saleh fills out his Tennessee staff before assessing the impact on QB Cam Ward and others.

        Update: McDaniel Coming Too?

That added bit from Hughes above certainly adds fantasy intrigue. We'll likely need to wait a bit to see where McDaniel lands. He still appears to be in the running for an HC post somewhere.

Any offense that adds McDaniel's scheming will get a boost in fantasy upside.
