The Cardinals and new HC Mike LaFleur have hired Nathaniel Hackett as the new OC. Hackett served as the OC under Mike’s brother Matt in Green Bay from 2019-2021 before floundering as HC of the Denver Broncos in 2022. He also was the OC for the Jets from 2023-2024. Hackett’s familiarity with the LaFleur offense makes him a natural fit to run Mike’s offense.
What They're Saying
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network: The Cardinals are hiring Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator, sources tell The Insiders.
Hackett, 46, was the offensive coordinator for three seasons under Matt LaFleur in Green Bay. Now, he teams up with Mike LaFleur in Arizona.
Fantasy Football Impact
LaFleur will still call plays, so Hackett’s job will remain in preparation and implementing the new system for the Cardinals.
Hackett's past experience as a HC along with multiple OC stops makes him a fine non-play calling OC to have on the staff. But for the sake of fantasy teams, hopefully LaFleur doesn't reconsider calling plays at any point this season.
Hackett wasn't helped in 2023 from Aaron Rodgers getting injured, but the Jets offense ranked 31st in offensive yards per game. Hackett was stripped of play-calling duties on the Jets in 2024 after Robert Saleh was fired.
The Cardinals offense could be a mess with QB Kyler Murray potentially being moved and a banged up backfield with RBs James Conner and Trey Benson. WR Marvin Harrison Jr. also has disappointed through his first two seasons.
