The Chiefs grabbed Oklahoma Edge R Mason Thomas in Round 2 of the NFL Draft. Thomas spent just two of his four Sooners seasons garnering starter-level playing time, and the numbers point to him operating as a pass-rushing specialist.
What They're Saying
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah: “Thomas is an instinctive and physical edge defender. He lacks ideal height/length/bulk for the position, but he is a difference maker. … Against the run, his lack of length wasn’t an issue in the games I studied.”
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Thomas’ college playing time didn’t follow the pass-rushing specialist path. He rushed the passer on less than half of his college snaps. But Thomas also topped 372 total snaps in just one of his four college campaigns and averaged only 39.2 snaps per game over his final two years.
That’s part-time duty. And if you’re a part-timer in your best college seasons, it’s tough to imagine you turning into a full-time NFL defender.
Thomas will probably flash at points, but he’ll sit way down our redraft IDP rankings.
Dynasty Impact
I’m not buying the 6’2, 241-pounder turning into a full-time player over the long term either. Let someone else in your dynasty league select Thomas.
