NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Commanders have big-time interest in WR Brandon Aiyuk. According to Rapoport, that interest stands as a key reason the 49ers haven't unloaded the disgruntled veteran yet. San Francisco doesn't want to release a guy it believes Washington will trade for, while the Commanders don't want to pay for a player they believe the Niners will release.
What They're Saying
Rapoport: "My belief -- eventually -- is that Aiyuk will be playing with his good friend Jayden Daniels for the Commanders."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
It's been pretty clear since at least the middle of last season that Aiyuk and the 49ers are done with each other. The only question is when the official break will finally come.
Unfortunately, San Francisco has no incentive to hasten the move. The team can afford to let Aiyuk eat up a roster spot until the end of August, when the Niners will need to cut down to its regular-season roster.
That timeline would hamper Aiyuk's chances of working into a new offense much more than it would hinder San Francisco's plans.
So What Do We Do with Rapoport's Report?
The best bet right now is Aiyuk landing with the Commanders at some point in 2026. Why does that matter? Because Aiyuk sits outside the position's top 60, at the end of Round 13 in Underdog Fantasy ADP.
That's no-risk range for a guy who has displayed top-24 scoring potential.
If you're drafting right now, stash some Aiyuk -- especially in best ball lineups with Daniels at QB.
