Commanders GM Adam Peters expects rookie WR Antonio Williams to be able to play both the 'Z' and slot receiver positions. WR Terry McLaurin is locked in as the 'X,' but there's clear opportunity for Williams to earn snaps right away at those other two spots.
What They're Saying
Peters on Williams: "He can play Z and slot. He’ll work at both of those. He’s not huge, but he’s not small. He’s a really tough player, and he’s got really good releases, and he plays really fast. So, those things allow him to win on the outside versus bigger corners. He can win inside with his quickness, as well. ... He understands the game, understands zone, understands man, understands how to win. He’s super competitive and he’s super tough. He’s a great athlete, really fast in a lot of different ways. He’s an NFL route-runner, he can win versus press, he can beat man coverage."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Williams showed that positional versatility at Clemson. His first and fourth seasons found him running 93% of his routes from the slot. But he was inside for 68% and 58%, respectively, in the two years in between.
That versatility will only help Williams' chances of getting on the field amid a weak Washington WR corps. His competition for snaps behind McLaurin:
- Treylon Burks
- Dyami Brown
- Jaylin Lane
- Luke McCaffrey
- Van Jefferson
Williams already looks like an intriguing late-round target in redraft. And he was a big post-draft riser in the dynasty rookie rankings.
