The Steelers drafted WR Roman Wilson in Round 3 in 2024. Since then, he has tallied just 12 total receptions across two pro seasons. That made him a surprising target for praise Tuesday.
What They're Saying: Wilson on the Rise
ESPN's Brooke Pryor: "Perhaps no Steelers pass catcher is getting more love than third-year wide receiver Roman Wilson. During their report-day news conferences, QB Aaron Rodgers and WR DK Metcalf praised the young player, who was a healthy scratch down the stretch last season."
Rodgers: "I think the guy out of anybody that's really shown this new staff ... a lot of great tape is Roman Wilson. Roman had a really nice spring."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Don't Bet on it
It's cool for Wilson to garner some positivity after a rough first two years. But he'll have a tough time finding fantasy relevance.
Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. clearly head toward the season as the top two, and Pittsburgh drafted WR Germie Bernard in Round 2.
That likely leaves Wilson as the No. 4 at best, though we'll see if he can beat Bernard for early-season work.
Either way, we're talking about a waiver-wire guy to open the year. An injury to Metcalf or Pittman could present opportunity for more.
Dynasty Impact
Wilson will need much more than Day 1 buzz to prove worth clinging to on dynasty rosters as well. He drew some attention with 12 senior-year TDs at Michigan and then good performances at the Senior Bowl and Scouting Combine.
But Wilson also averaged just 2.3 receptions per game through his Wolverines career, with just one season of more than 25 catches. Even that year found him just 1 reception ahead of Cornelius Johnson for the team lead.
We'll see if the 2026 positivity leads anywhere.
