Emmett Johnson Headshot

Jesse Newell of The Athletic calls Chiefs RB Emmett Johnson an early training camp "faller." Here's more from Newell. “The Chiefs were thrilled to get Emmett Johnson in the fifth round of April’s draft, and I’d think his long-term prospects with the team remain unchanged. But as of now … he’s been a clear fourth in the running back pecking order in practices, behind both Brashard Smith and Emari Demercado [plus starter Kenneth Walker].”

What They're Saying

HC Andy Reid pointed to Johnson's pad level as an area that must continue developing.

“You go high at this level, and you’re going to get rearranged,” Reid said. “And you don’t want that to happen.”

2026 Fantasy Football Impact

Johnson had a chance to claim the No. 2 RB role, but it sounds like he'll enter the season buried on the depth chart.

His slow start adds to Kenneth Walker's appeal as an RB1. He makes the top 10 of our PPR RB rankings.
