Garrett Wilson is tearing up training camp as he builds rapport with Jets’ new QB Geno Smith. Connor Hughes, the NFL Reporter for SportsNet New York, claimed the pair was ‘cooking’ today, adding that Smith had zero incompletions when targeting Wilson.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Career Year Is in Play
For those in attendance at Jets’ training camp, it has been no secret how dominant Wilson has been. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, reported that Smith had connected with Wilson four times just this morning.
Wilson’s struggle to produce elite fantasy numbers hasn’t been due to a lack of target earning. Wilson has earned at least a 23.0% target share every year of his career and earned as high as a 27.9% target share in 2023, which ranked 8th among wide receivers that season. The issue has resided in the offense around him.
Since Wilson entered the NFL in 2022, the Jets have ranked in the bottom half of the league in either passing yards or TDs every season. Just last season, the offense ranked dead last in both categories as the only team to average under 150 passing yards and a touchdown per game.
For reference, Smith averaged 201.7 passing yards and 1.27 TDs per game on the league’s worst team last season. So while Smith may not offer Wilson the most upside, he still may help deliver the highest-scoring fantasy season of Wilson’s career.
