The Steelers rested starters for their final preseason game Friday night, and that group included third-year WR Roman Wilson. Rookie Germie Bernard, meanwhile, joined WRs Brandon Smith and Max Hurleman in the starting lineup, alongside QB Will Howard.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Wilson Remains a Weak Bet
Wilson has continuously run ahead of Bernard this summer, and it looks like Pittsburgh's set to open the regular season with the second-round pick as No. 4 on the depth chart.
It's hard to envision Pittsburgh's No. 3 WR presenting much fantasy value throughout the season, but that could be an enviable season-opening role.
WRs DK Metcalf (undisclosed) and Michael Pittman Jr. (leg) have missed time with physical issues in August. Each looks on track to play Week 1, but there's opportunity upside if either guy encounters a setback.
That said, Wilson remains no more than waiver fodder for most fantasy leagues. And we're still anticipating that Bernard will pass him in usage at some point this season.
Wilson's college career presented a slow build, with no more than 25 catches in a season until his senior year. And then he totaled just 12 receptions across his first two pro campaigns.
Whoever's on the field for Pittsburgh's regular-season opener gets a high-upside home matchup with the Falcons.
