Dillon Gabriel Headshot

Dillon Gabriel is heading to injured reserve after injuring his back in the Browns’ preseason finale three days ago and undergoing an MRI, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The designation comes days after Gabriel’s start in the final preseason game against the Patriots where he looked impressive. He completed 12 of 15 pass attempts for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns in one half of play.

Gabriel wasn’t a factor in the underwhelming starting quarterback battle between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders that ultimately favored Watson.

That was somewhat understandable, as Gabriel was coming off a rookie season that amounted to very poor production and efficiency. His 5.3 adjusted yards per attempt ranked second to last among all qualified quarterbacks.

He ranked only ahead of fellow Browns QB Shedeur Sanders.

But Gabriel’s output in the team’s latest preseason game might've played a factor in keeping him on the roster beyond the cut deadline.
