This past April, when Klubnik was drafted out of Clemson in the fourth round, the path to immediately becoming the backup QB was clear. It came in the form of a competition with Zappe, which ultimately went in his favor.
If you go back to when Klubnik was one of the top QB recruits coming out of Westlake High School as a five-star, you would’ve hoped he entered the league higher than a fourth-round selection.
But a four-year college career with just one season above 20.0 fantasy points per game (PPG) and a senior-year 7.6 adjusted yards per attempt that finished outside the top 25 among all power four conference quarterbacks pushed Klubnik to Day 3.
Fortunately, with him now first in line for an opportunity if something happens to Geno Smith, he has a path to fantasy relevance as soon as this season.
