Garrett Wilson Headshot

Jets WR Garrett Wilson caught 5 passes for 57 yards and 1 TD in Sunday’s loss to Green Bay. That’s a solid fantasy line, but his underlying usage wasn’t quite as encouraging as the box score suggests.

What They're Saying

Before Week 2, Wilson spoke of his shift to playing more outside WR. Over two weeks, he's run nearly 87% of his routes from a perimeter alignment.

"It's more like playing true receiver, that one-on-one game with the corner," he said via ESPN. "You end up catching more passes down the field, and you're just more away from all the -- I'm not a huge guy. Those guys in the interior, the defense, are big guys. It just gives me more space to operate, which I like a lot. I think that's where I'm my best."

"It's a long season, and we're going to end up doing a lot, but being back outside is definitely refreshing. It makes that film when I go home a lot more simple. Did you beat that DB? Did you finish the play? How open were you? I'm just able to watch my route, which is kind of cool."

2026 Fantasy Football Impact

Back to Week 2 ...

Adonai Mitchell led the Jets with a 32% target share, well ahead of Wilson’s 21%. Mitchell also beat his teammate in rate of targets per route run (28% to 16%).

Stepping back, it wasn’t like Wilson left the field more than expected. His 88% route rate led the team and finished right alongside Mitchell (82%) and Isaiah Williams (86%).

Wilson is up to a solid 2.13 yards per route run through two games, a figure that'd easily mark a career-high over a full season. He remains a WR2 moving forward.

Other Winners & Losers

Credit Mitchell for drawing a career-high 12 targets. Through two weeks, he’s up to a 25% target share, including a league-high 56.7% air yards share, per NFL Pro.

His downfield role will likely lead to some volatile lines going forward, but his early-season sample suggests he should at least be rostered in leagues of 12+ teams. An efficient start to the season from Geno Smith only helps boost the upside case for both Wilson and Mitchell. The veteran has completed 70.8% of his passes entering Week 3.
