Josh Jacobs Headshot

Packers RB Josh Jacobs will return to practice Wednesday, but the team apparently hasn't decided yet whether he'll play Sunday at Detroit, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

What They're Saying

HC Matt LaFleur, via Demovsky: "We feel like he's in a pretty good spot. He's been training, but he's missed the exposure to football."

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Jacobs Should Improve RB Production, But Big Issue Remains

We're not betting on getting full Jacobs in Week 7, because of that lack of football exposure. I've never played in the NFL (or college), but I'll go ahead and trust that there's a difference between being in shape and being in "football shape."

That said, the Packers are averaging 2.9 yards per carry as a team so far this season. Pierre Strong led the backfield in Week 6 playing time. He spent all of 2025 and the first four weeks of this season on Green Bay's practice squad.

That's how well things are going with Packers RBs so far this year.

So I don't blame LaFleur for staying coy this early in the week, but I'll be quite surprised if Jacobs doesn't play at least some in Week 7.

We'll watch for signals this week on expected work share, but there will likely be plenty of guesswork in Jacobs' Week 7 projection. Let's hope we can at least get enough from him against the Lions to plan to start Jacobs for a Week 8 home date with Carolina.

Of course, even a full Jacobs will need to deal with the O-line issues that have helped stall the run game. Green Bay ranks last in the league in adjusted line yards by a wide margin. The gap from No. 31 Philadelphia (3.48) to the Packers (2.95) is wider than the difference between Philly's ALY and that of No. 18 Seattle (3.97).

Temper your fantasy expectations.
