Washington feels "pretty good" about QB Alex Smith's chances of playing against the Seahawks on Sunday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Smith isn't expected to practice much this week to get that injured calf a chance to heal. He's not much of a fantasy option, but Smith's availability would be good news for WR Terry McLaurin and the rest of Washington's offense.

Washington QB Alex Smith is dealing with a calf strain that's believed to be "somewhat mild," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Smith is scheduled for more testing on Monday, but it sounds like he avoided a significant injury. We'll look for another update on his status tomorrow and then monitor his practice participation throughout the week.

Washington QB Alex Smith appeared to injure his surgically repaired leg in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the 49ers. He's officially questionable to return, but look for QB Dwayne Haskins to finish this one out. We'll update Smith's status when we know more.

Washington QB Kyle Allen (ankle) is "trending" toward missing the rest of the season, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Allen is expected to have surgery "in the coming weeks" to repair his dislocated and fractured ankle. Washington seems committed to playing QB Alex Smith over QB Dwayne Haskins, who was the 15th overall pick of last year's draft.

Update: Allen posted on social media that he's undergoing surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Washington QB Kyle Allen hurt his left ankle in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game against the Giants. This looked like a serious injury that'll at least knock Allen out for the rest of this game. QB Alex Smith has replaced him.

Update: Allen is believed to have a "dislocated ankle, but only a small fracture," according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Washington QB Kyle Allen was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Rams with an arm injury. He's questionable to return. QB Alex Smith is on the field for the 1st time since suffering a gruesome leg injury in November of 2018.

Washington QB Alex Smith has been activated from the PUP list. It's another impressive step in what's been a miraculous recovery from his 2018 compound leg fracture. HC Ron Rivera has said that Smith will be part of the QB battle with Dwayne Haskins and Kyle Allen if healthy, but we'd still consider him a big long shot.

The Broncos have traded QB Case Keenum and a 2020 7th-round pick to the Redskins in exchange for a 2020 6th-rounder. Denver will also pay half of Keenum's $7 million 2019 salary. It's a cheap acquisition for Washington but doesn't solve the team's QB problem. Keenum's impressive 2016 campaign with the Vikings looks like a major outlier. He completed 58.4% of his passes and averaged 6.7 yards per attempt over the 5 prior seasons. Then he completed 62.3% with a 6.6-yard average and 15 INTs as the Broncos' starter last year. With QB Alex Smith (leg) unlikely to play in 2019, Keenum is the favorite to start for Washington for now. We'll see if the 'Skins add anything else to the QB room.

The Redskins are planning as if QB Alex Smith (leg) will not be able to play at all in 2019, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Smith suffered a compound leg fracture in November and has dealt with infections after surgery that have lengthened his recovery time. He was recently spotted with an external fixator on the injured leg that's helping to hold his bones in place. Turning 35 in May, Smith's football future is probably in doubt. The Redskins figure to add a QB this offseason, with only Colt McCoy behind Smith on the depth chart now.

Redskins QB Alex Smith and WR Jamison Crowder have been "on the same page" in spring workouts, according to insider Rich Tandler. "Smith fired several darts in to Crowder for touchdowns, both in seven-on-seven work and in full team drills," Tandler reported from Wednesday's minicamp session. It's obviously very early, but it sounds like Crowder is emerging as Smith's top target. After a slightly disappointing 2017 as a popular breakout pick, Crowder could be a post-hype value in 2018 fantasy drafts. He's going 36th among WRs in early June best-ball drafts.

The Kansas City Star reports that the Chiefs have reached an agreement to trade QB Alex Smith to Washington for a 2018 third-round pick and CB Kendall Fuller. Washington reportedly also plans to sign Smith to a 4-year, $94 million extension that will include $71 million in guarantees. The move can't become official until the new league year begins in March. Everyone expected Smith to move on from Kansas City this offseason, but this is a surprising development given Washington's reluctance to invest long-term in Kirk Cousins. In addition to setting off the Patrick Mahomes era in Kansas City, the deal obviously also signals Cousins' entry into free agency. We'll see how all of these offenses -- which also include various impending free agencies at other positions -- settle out before projecting too much. Smith should be landing in a nice spot, though, with a HC who helped turn Cousins into a big-time fantasy factor over the past 3 years and emerging young talents Jamison Crowder and Josh Doctson at WR. Smith will turn 34 in May.

The Chiefs made a big move up in the 1st round from pick #27 to #10 to select Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes. He put up video-game numbers over the past 2 seasons, compiling 9,705 passing yards and 77 TDs. That, of course, came in Texas Tech’s Air Raid offense — a system that hasn’t produced NFL QBs. Mahomes might be the exception, though. He has a cannon for an arm and a true gunslinger’s mentality. Think Brett Favre or Jay Cutler. Mahomes is also a plus athlete, registering a SPARQ score in the 70th percentile at his position. He figures to spend 2017 holding a clipboard for QB Alex Smith. But Smith will be 34 years old and owed $17 million when 2018 rolls around, so bet on Mahomes taking over then.

The NFL has moved kickoff of the Steelers-Chiefs game to 8:20 pm ET on Sunday. The game was originally scheduled to start at 1:05 ET, but Kansas City is expected to get slammed by an ice storm this weekend. The current forecast calls for a 100% chance of rain and 32-degree temperatures for Sunday night, so we're not sure what the new kickoff time is accomplishing. Wind isn't expected to be an issue, but the conditions will obviously be less than ideal for the passing games.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith played a nearly flawless 1st half against the Raiders on Thursday night, completing 11 of 16 passes for 203 yards. The highlight was a perfectly thrown deep ball to WR Tyreek Hill for a 36-yard TD. It was a different story in the 2nd half. He was picked off on his 2nd pass after the break and was strip-sacked on his very next snap. Smith connected on just 6 of 10 attempts for 61 scoreless yards in the 2nd half, but Kansas City's defense did enough to hold on for the win. Smith has posted 220+ yards in 4 straight games. That's the good news. The bad news is that he's gone 6 straight games without tossing more than 1 TD. Even in a plus matchup against the Titans next week, he won't be more than a mid-range QB2.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith (head, ear) put in a full week of practice and will start Sunday’s game against the Panthers. That’s a plus matchup — Carolina has allowed the 6th most fantasy points to QBs — but Smith will be without WR Jeremy Maclin. He’s more QB2 than QB1 spot starter.

The Chiefs confirmed Monday that QB Alex Smith will start the Week 10 game at Carolina. ESPN reports that the team put him into the league concussion protocol and that HC Andy Reid decided to sit Smith against the Jaguars on Sunday despite the team and player both saying he didn't suffer a concussion. The move was reportedly precautionary after Smith left the Week 8 game twice with concussion-like symptoms. Independent doctors cleared him before the Jags game.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith is expected back for Week 10 against the Panthers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Smith is sitting out today's game against the Jaguars after taking a couple of big shots last week, although he reportedly didn't suffer a concussion. He'll be a spot-start option next week vs. a Carolina defense that's much better against the run than the pass.
