The Buccaneers have reached a deal with RB Andre Ellington. The 30-year-old started his career in Arizona under new Bucs HC Bruce Arians. They showed us then that Ellington's not a workhorse. There's room for him to work into a Tampa committee, however. Last year's 2nd-round pick, Ronald Jones, returns, and Peyton Barber (a restricted free agent) will likely remain in the mix. Signing Ellington certainly shouldn't keep the Bucs from making any other backfield moves this offseason. We'll see what this depth chart looks like after the NFL Draft and early free agency.

The Texans claimed RB Andre Ellington off waivers. While he's a capable pass-catching back, landing with a team quarterbacked by Tom Savage makes Ellington a poor bet for fantasy value the rest of the way. We wouldn't bother rostering him outside of deep PPR leagues. RB Lamar Miller's value takes just a slight hit with this move. RB D'Onta Foreman, of course, is out for the year.

The Cardinals have released RB Andre Ellington. A big part of the offense just a little more than a month ago, Ellington had totaled just 7 touches in his last 3 games. He was a healthy scratch for Sunday's loss to the Texans. RB D.J. Foster stepped into Ellington's role in that one, finishing with 2 catches for 26 yards. He's not worth grabbing in redraft leagues. Ellington turns 29 in February and isn't a particularly good bet to re-emerge as a fantasy asset.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is inactive for today's game against Houston. He wasn't listed on the injury report, so it looks like he's a healthy scratch. Arizona is clearly planning to go extremely run-heavy with Adrian Peterson in this one.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (quad) is active for today’s game against the 49ers. He was limited in practice all week, so it’s possible that he’s still not at 100%. Ellington does have a nice matchup against a defense that’s allowed the most receiving yards to RBs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Cardinals RB Andre Ellington will play today against the 49ers. Ellington is questionable with a quad injury. He'll carry reception upside for deep PPR leagues as Arizona enters its 1st game with Drew Stanton in place of Carson Palmer.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (quad) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the 49ers. HC Bruce Arians labeled him a game-time decision. Arizona figures to go run-heavy vs. San Francisco, so Ellington shouldn’t be in Week 9 fantasy lineups.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (quad) is inactive for today’s game against the Rams. It’s a boost to RB Adrian Peterson’s outlook, although it’s still unclear just how much passing-down work he’ll see. Kerwynn Williams figures to serve as Arizona’s #2 RB.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported late Saturday night that Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is not expected to play Sunday against the Rams. That could mean more passing-down work for both Adrian Peterson and Kerwynn Williams. Williams wouldn’t be worth a play in fantasy leagues. We’ll confirm Ellington’s status when th inactives come out

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (quad) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams. HC Bruce Arians said Friday that he expects Ellington to play, but he didn't practice the past 2 days. We'll find out his status by noon ET on Sunday, but Ellington will be a risky fantasy option if active. If not, RB Adrian Peterson could pick up a bit more passing-down work. But we'd expect most of it to go to RB Kerwynn Williams.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said Thursday that RB Chris Johnson's carries "will likely go up this week." Johnson led the backfield with 11 attempts and 44 rushing yards in the Week 2 win over the Colts -- although he wasn't targeted in the passing game. We'd still try to avoid this backfield in Week 3 fantasy lineups, but Johnson looks like the best bet if you need to dabble.

The Cardinals have signed RB Chris Johnson. The 31-year-old was released at final cuts after a rough preseason. He's now the most experienced back on Arizona's roster, but the fact that Kerwynn Williams was kept instead of Johnson a few weeks ago makes Williams the better fantasy bet. At least for now. With Andre Ellington and potentially Elijhaa Penny also involved, this is quickly becoming a backfield to stay away from.

Cardinals RB David Johnson will undergo surgery on his dislocated wrist this week and is expected to be sidelined 2-3 months, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Johnson will be placed on IR but has a chance to be tabbed the "designated-to-return" player. Still, we're looking at a mid-November return -- or somewhere around Week 10 or 11 -- as the best-case scenario. He'll be tough to carry on fantasy rosters unless your league has an IR spot or deep benches. With Johnson sidelined, Arizona will turn to a committee backfield of Kerwynn Williams, Andre Ellington and possibly Elijhaa Penny, D.J. Foster and/or a free-agent addition. Williams is the best fantasy bet, but we're treating him only as a RB3 or flex at this point. Ellington has a shot to be an asset in PPR leagues.

Cardinals RB David Johnson is expected to miss an "extended period of time" with the wrist injury he suffered in Sunday's loss to the Lions, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Getting more opinions, but an IR candidate," Rapoport adds. It's unclear if Johnson would be out for the season or a "designated-to-return" candidate. We'll continue to update his status as we learn more. Check the Week 2 Free Agent Focus for our thoughts on the Cardinals backfield without Johnson.

We passed along word from insider Kent Somers earlier this offseason that the Cardinals planned to move Andre Ellington to WR. HC Bruce Arians made it official on Wednesday, saying that Ellington will work with the WRs this offseason. The 5'9, 199-pounder has struggled to hold up as a runner. But he's a plus pass-catcher who's hauled in 112 balls for 999 yards (8.9 YPC) over 4 seasons. There's opportunity in what was once a deep Cardinals WR corps. Larry Fitzgerald turns 34 in August, John Brown has struggled to stay healthy and Michael Floyd is gone. Ellington still seems unlikely to carve out a big enough role to be a reliable fantasy option, but his transition will be worth monitoring.

The Cardinals plan to run Andre Ellington primarily at WR in 2017, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Altering Ellington's role certainly makes sense. He has struggled to hold up physically in the backfield, and David Johnson emerged as 1 of the NFL's best RBs -- and an all-situations player -- last season. Ellington showed his playmaking chops most prominently while splitting the backfield with Rashard Mendenhall in his rookie campaign. Getting his skills on the field should help the offense. Somers reports that Ellington will still see some RB work. The question, of course, will be whether he can find enough touches to gain fantasy relevance. We're not betting on it. More likely, Ellington will flash with a few nice fantasy lines driven by big plays but be too inconsistent to be worth owning. We'd bet on Arizona also adding backfield depth. RB Chris Johnson's a free agent.

The Cardinals have placed RB Chris Johnson (groin) on IR. It's unclear if he's done for the season or has a chance to return in 8 weeks, but he can be dropped from all fantasy rosters. Johnson had stolen 25 carries from David Johnson through the season's first 4 games. Andre Ellington will step in as Arizona's #2 RB and is worth rostering in deep leagues.

Cardinals 2nd-year RB David Johnson's already going in Round 1 of early fantasy drafts. HC Bruce Arians doesn't seem likely to hurt that standing at all. "David's earned the right now to be the bell cow," Arians said this week, per ESPN.com. "Everybody's got to take it from him. But Chris ran for 800 (yards) and probably would have had 1,200 had he stayed healthy. Andre can break the game open." It'll take an injury or a seriously disappointing summer from David Johnson for either of those guys to "take it from him." Ellington broke down in his lone turn as the starter. Chris Johnson will turn 31 in September and has never been a good receiver. All 3 guys have garnered more than two-thirds of the team's rushing workload in their starting turns over the past 3 seasons. So when Arians says "bellcow," he means it. Look for Johnson to come out high in our 2016 projections, with Chris Johnson a decent handcuff and Ellington just a late flier.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is active for today’s game against the Packers. We’re expecting him to see 6-10 touches behind RB David Johnson. Ellington is just a RB3 flier.
