Andre Ellington Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said Wednesday that RB Andre Ellington's foot is "improved" after the bye week.  Ellington still isn't at 100% but will be able to start practicing more.  The 2nd-year back is averaging a strong 4.5 yards per carry but seemed to be missing last year's burst in his first 3 games.  We'll see if he has it back in Sunday's game against the Broncos.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) is active for today’s game against the Giants. Ellington didn’t practice much this week but was always expected to play. He seemed to be missing some burst in the opener but ran with power and finished with 18 touches. He’s a solid RB2 this week.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Giants. He put in a limited practice on Friday. The Cards are cautiously calling him a game-time decision, but all indications are that he’ll play. Pencil him into lineups as a RB2. We’ll find out Ellington’s official status by noon ET on Sunday.

ESPN's Josh Weinfuss reports that Cardinals RB Andre Ellington wore a walking boot Tuesday to rest his bothersome left foot.  HC Bruce Arians said Ellington would likely miss practice Wednesday but was expected to return for Thursday's and Friday's workouts.  Ellington conceded some limitations in Monday night's game but still made it through OK and should be ready to use in fantasy lineups going forward.  We'll obviously keep an eye out for his status as the practice week wears on, though.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington admitted that his injured foot was a factor in Monday night's opener.  "I had some quickness going from right to left, but it was a little harder going from left to right," he said.  Ellington finished with 53 yards on 13 carries.  He broke gains of 13 and 18 yards and ran with surprising power.  But he seemed to be missing his usual speed and explosion.  "You could tell he's not back to 100 percent, but hopefully he will be soon," QB Carson Palmer said.  Ellington has a short week before next Sunday's game against the Giants.  We'll keep an eye on his practice participation over the next few days.  The good news is he'll get a Week 4 bye to rest up.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) is active for tonight's game against the Chargers.  We have no way of knowing how many touches Ellington will get or how effective he'll be on that bum foot.  But if you waited this long, he's a better fantasy option than teammate Jonathan Dwyer.

Cardinals insider Mike Jurecki has learned that RB Andre Ellington is dealing with a peroneal tendon injury.  It's a tendon that sits behind the outer ankle bone.  Ellington has reportedly been given 2 options: Wear a boot for 2-3 weeks to strengthen the foot, or attempt to play through it.  Surgery might be an option after the season.  Ellington wants to play through it, but the team hasn't made a decision yet.  We'd rather see him rest up for a few weeks and return at 100%.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen would be "surprised" if Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) played against the Chargers on Monday night.  "The vibe we're getting is negative."  Ellington avoided a serious injury and was able to get on the practice field on Saturday, but Arizona would be wise to hold him out until he's closer to 100%.  Look for RB Jonathan Dwyer to start the opener.  15 or so touches, including goal-line work, makes him a viable RB3 or flex.

The news on Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) has been much rosier today than it was on Friday.  After consulting with 3 separate foot specialists, it was determined that he does not need surgery.  Ellington actually got in a limited practice on Saturday and has been deemed a game-time decision for Monday night's tilt against the Chargers.  HC Bruce Arians says he's "optimistic" about Ellington's availability.  That still puts fantasy owners in a tough spot for Week 1.  We won't know Ellington's status until about 9 pm ET on Monday night, and he'll be a risky fantasy start if he is active.  Avoiding the situation is your best bet.  If you do want to wait on Ellington, you need to have either Jonathan Dwyer or Danny Woodhead rostered as a late replacement.  Longer term, it sounds like this foot won't be as big an issue as initially thought.  Ellington still carries risk but will have top-10 upside whenever he's on the field.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington will not need surgery on his injured foot, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  Ellington has reportedly been dealing with the foot issue for "a few weeks."  The team believes it will heal on its own, but it's unclear how long that will take.  Rapoport says there's "still a chance" Ellington plays on Monday night.  That late start puts fantasy owners in a tough spot, though.  Unless you have another option in that game -- Jonathan Dwyer is the handcuff -- Ellington needs to be on your bench for now.

Cardinals insider Mike Jurecki is "hearing" that RB Andre Ellington could miss an "extended period of time."  Ellington reportedly injured his left foot in Thursday's practice and underwent an MRI.  We still don't have many details here, but it's worth noting that Ellington had problems with his feet throughout his college career.  We'll continue to track this story and pass along an update when we get one.  In the meantime, Ellington owners should have RB Jonathan Dwyer rostered.  He's a mediocre talent but is looking at 15+ touches in a high-scoring offense if Ellington misses time.

The Cardinals believe RB Andre Ellington's foot issue is a result of the shoes he's been wearing, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.  The team believes they've solved the problem and expects Ellington to be a "full-go" for Monday night's game against the Chargers.  We're not moving him down our Week 1 RB Rankings.  Ellington has loads of upside against a mediocre San Diego D.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington was limited in Thursday’s practice with a foot injury. Team beat writer Kent Somers called the listing a “surprise,” but there’s been no indication that it’s a serious issue. We’ll have a better read on this situation tomorrow. Arizona doesn’t play until Monday night, so there’s some extra time for Ellington to rest.

Cardinals RB Stump Mitchell calls Andre Ellington an "every-down back."  That jibes with everything else the coaching staff has said this offseason.  And Ellington was on the field for almost every snap with the 1st-team offense in Arizona's 3rd preseason game.  "He can do it all," Mitchell said. "He's a great route runner. He's excellent in terms of vision and the ability to catch and the ability to cut. He's very serviceable as a pass blocker. He can stay in and be an every-down back, which a lot of teams don't do nowadays."  The biggest question with Ellington is whether he can hold up with a heavy workload.  If he does, he has an excellent chance to finish as a top-10 fantasy RB.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians believes RB Andre Ellington “could be a starting WR” in the NFL. At 5’9, 200 pounds, Ellington has the body of a slot receiver. The 25-year-old rusher obviously isn’t changing positions, but there’s little doubt that his receptions will rise after recording 39 grabs in 2013. Ellington spent several offseason workouts working exclusively on his pass-catching skills. And he’s clearly dangerous with the ball in space. Despite a rugged divisional schedule, the Clemson product carries sizable PPR upside into his 2nd NFL season.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians believes RB Andre Ellington is ready to be a "bell cow."  Ellington packed on a few pounds this offseason and has improved his strength, according to Arians.  It's just the latest instance of the Cardinals suggesting that Ellington will be a focal point of the offense this season.  If his body can hold up, he carries clear top-10 fantasy upside.

Cardinals insider John Weinfuss expects RB Andre Ellington to receive goal-line carries only on "a few occasions."  Weinfuss believes RBs Stepfan Taylor and Jonathan Dwyer will get the majority of the short-yardage work.  Ellington is set to operate as Arizona's feature back this season, but the team doesn't want to wear down the 5'9, 199-pounder.  Losing goal-line work obviously puts a cap on Ellington's upside, but his combination of big-play and pass-catching ability still gives him the potential to finish as a top-10 fantasy RB.

Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official website "guesses" that RB Andre Ellington will see 20-22 touches per game this season.  That's lower -- but also more realistic -- than HC Bruce Arians' 25-30 projection earlier this offseason.  20-22 touches per game would put Ellington at 320-352 for the year.  The lower end of that would have ranked 6th league-wide in 2013; the upper end 3rd.  We currently have Ellington projected for 276 total touches but could see him approaching 300.  That type of workload would give a guy who averaged 5.5 yards per carry and 9.5 yards per catch last year huge fantasy upside.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians confirmed that Andre Ellington is his "#1 back" in 2014.  That's been clear all offseason, with Arizona losing Rashard Mendenhall and only adding Jonathan Dwyer.  Arians added that he expects Elllington to get 25-30 touches per game.  That's obviously an exaggeration -- 25 touches per game would give Ellington 400 for the season.  But the point is that Ellington is going to be busy in 2014 after averaging 5.5 yards per carry and 9.5 yards per catch last year.  He has big-time breakout potential this season.

The Cardinals have signed LT Jared Veldheer to a 5-year, $35 million deal.  The 26-year-old is the youngest of the top free-agent OTs.  Veldheer missed most of last season with a triceps injury but finished 12th among 80 OTs in Pro Football Focus' 2012 rankings.  He's a significant upgrade for the Cardinals -- and good news for the fantasy prospects of QB Carson Palmer, RB Andre Ellington and WRs Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd.
