Andrew Luck Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Fantasy Football News 2022

Most Recent Shark Bites

The 2012 Colts finished 6th in pass attempts and 14th in rushes.  HC Chuck Pagano wants to see a more balanced attack this season.  "We don’t want to be in a situation where we have to drop back and throw the football 600+ times," Pagano said. "Obviously, some of that was due to self-inflicted wounds, so to speak, getting behind early and we had no choice but to throw to catch up. Hopefully, we can run the football better. We will run the football better."  Pagano also mentioned working in more screens and check-downs to "get the completion percentage up a little bit."  With pass-happy OC Bruce Arians gone, Indy's offense figures to be more conservative in 2013.  QB Andrew Luck will likely be better as a player in his 2nd season, but his numbers might take a step back because of the change in offensive philosophy.

The Colts have signed WR Darrius Heyward-Bey to a 1-year, $3 million deal.  DHB was reportedly deciding between Indy and Detroit for his new home.  The Lions probably would have given him more fantasy upside, but Indy isn't a bad landing spot either.  Heyward-Bey could theoretically challenge T.Y. Hilton for #2 WR duties, but we're betting he settles in at #3.  The Colts produced three 780+ yard WRs last year, though, and DHB could hit that mark in 2013.  The addition is also good news for QB Andrew Luck.  Heyward-Bey is an upgrade over Donnie Avery.

New Colts OC Pep Hamilton is working to adapt his offense to the one Bruce Arians ran so successfully in Indy last year. "That includes terminology, formations and personnel groups," the National Football Post hears. We're not overly concerned with how QB Andrew Luck will adjust to the coordinator change because he ran Hamilton's offense at Stanford. But sticking with Arians' vertical passing concepts would be good news for WR T.Y. Hilton.

New Colts OC Pep Hamilton told reporters he'll bring a "variation" of a West Coast offense. He said he's "a big believer in the power-running game" and says it opens up the passing game. That bodes well for Vick Ballard at the outset, though we'll obviously have to see if Indy pursues another backfield option. Hamilton also wants to feature short, high-percentage passes. Reggie Wayne will obviously have a place, and T.Y. Hilton could be the top playmaker that Hamilton looks to open things for. The TEs will be interesting to watch. Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen each hold some intriguing potential but provided only limited usefulness in fantasy in 2012.

The Colts have replaced former OC Bruce Arians with former Stanford OC Pep Hamilton. He spent the past 2 years piloting the Cardinal offense, which means he had just 1 year in that post with Andrew Luck and TE Coby Fleener. It should help Luck to get familiar system rather than face the challenge of potentially learning something completely new. And Hamilton has experience in NFL offenses. He spent 2003-05 on the Jets' offensive staff, coached Niners QBs in 2006 and then served as Chicago's QB coach 2007-10. Stanford's "pro-style" offense was viewed as a mark in Luck's favor heading into last year's draft.

The Colts are locked into the AFC's #5 seed, but HC Chuck Pagano doesn't plan on resting his starters in Sunday's finale against the Texans.  "It's not in our makeup," Pagano said Wednesday.  While it might make sense for younger guys like Andrew Luck, Vick Ballard, and T.Y. Hilton to play a full game, it wouldn't be surprising to see 34-year-old Reggie Wayne get some rest.  There's risk in starting any of these guys in fantasy this week.

Colts rookie QB Andrew Luck played like a seasoned vet against the Steelers in Sunday night's preseason action.  He tossed a pick-6 on his 3rd possession -- a late, underthrown ball to the sidelines that was intercepted by CB Ike Taylor.  But Luck came right back out and led a 9-play, 80-yard TD drive.  He was intercepted again on his next series when rookie WR T.Y. Hilton dropped a pass.  Luck once again came back the next possession and orchestrated a TD drive -- this time scoring on his own 1-yard run.  He closed the 1st half by going 31 yards in under a minute to set up a FG.  Luck finished his night 16 of 25 for 175 yards and those 2 INTs on the road against a tough Steelers defense.  Through 2 preseason games, he's completed 63.4% of his passes for 363 yards -- good for a stellar 8.9 yards-per-attempt average.  He has 2 TDs and 2 INTs.  Luck is clearly ready for the big show, and Colts OC Bruce Arians seems willing to let him air it out.  We're starting to warm up to the idea of Luck as viable half of a QB-by-committee for fantasy teams this year.

Colts QB Andrew Luck exceeded everyone's (sky-high) expectations in his preseason debut on Sunday afternoon. The rookie completed 10 of 16 passes for 188 yards and 2 TDs. He put 21 points on the board in 4 possessions. Luck seemed to be in complete control of the offense and threw with plenty of zip and accuracy. He even tacked on a 9-yard rush to remind us of his athletic ability. This guy is the real deal. There will still be growing pains as a 1st-year signal-caller on a rebuilding offense with a holey offensive line, but Luck is capable of serving as a spot starter in fantasy this season.

The Colts and QB Andrew Luck agreed to a 4-year, $22.1 million deal.  It's fully guaranteed and includes a team option for a 5th year.  Luck missed most of spring workouts as he finished up his degree at Stanford, but he's had the playbook and has recently been throwing with some of his receivers in Miami.  He'll have the entire training camp and preseason to settle in.  Expect some growing pains, but Luck could emerge as a viable fill-in when the bye weeks start to hit.  He's not lacking in the talent department, and the Colts figure to be playing catch-up early and often.

Colts QB Andrew Luck was drafted with a reputation for having top-notch intangibles.  He's done nothing to dispel that notion so far.  Luck has organized workout sessions with WRs Reggie Wayne, Donnie Avery, and Griff Whalen in Miami over the past few weeks.  That shows both dedication and leadership.  The get-togethers are also important considering Luck missed most of the spring workouts while wrapping up his degree at Stanford.  He's had the playbook, though, and should be a quick study.  While growing pains should be expected in his first NFL season, Luck has the talent to post some solid numbers.  Consider him a mid-range fantasy backup.

The Colts used the 64th overall pick of the draft on Clemson TE Dwayne Allen.  The 6'3, 255-pounder is a well-rounded TE -- a solid blocker and reliable pass-catcher.  Allen joins Coby Fleener to give Indy a pair of talented TEs.  Comparing to duo to New England's, Allen will be the Rob Gronkowski to Fleener's Aaron Hernandez.  The Colts are doing a nice job giving rookie QB Andrew Luck some toys to play with.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson confirmed that his team will make Stanford QB Andrew Luck the 1st overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. While the national media has been hyping Baylor's Robert Griffin, Luck was always locked-in as as the #1 pick. An intelligent and athletic signal-caller with off-the-charts intangibles, Luck will step right into the Colts' starting lineup. He won't have a whole lot to work with, though, so it's tough to see him producing as anything more than a mid-level QB2.
