Jets HC Todd Bowles described RB Matt Forte (hamstring) as "day-by-day or week-by-week," adding that he's "not sure" if Forte will practice this week. The 30-year-old injured his hammy before training camp started and has barely been on the field. It's starting to become a concern, especially since Forte has a new offense to learn and a young guy in Bilal Powell nipping at his heels. We've already moved Forte down the RB rankings once and will move him down further if he doesn't get back on the practice field within the next week or so.

The Jets have activated RB Khiry Robinson off the PUP list. He missed the 1st 9 workouts while completing the rehab from the leg fracture that ended his 2015 season. Robinson will now compete for the #3 job in the New York backfield, which could include goal-line work. Neither Matt Forte nor Bilal Powell has proved himself in that area yet, with Forte perennially removed near the end zone.

Jets HC Todd Bowles announced Thursday that RB Matt Forte will miss next Thursday's preseason opener, according to That's no big surprise given the time Forte has missed so far with hamstring trouble. It's also not necessarily a big deal. Forte's heading into his 9th NFL season and probably doesn't need exhibition action to get ready. That said, some game-time prep would likely help as he learns a new offense and teammates. Plus, less Forte in the preseason means more available time for Bilal Powell. We'll see where this goes.

Jets insider Darryl Slater expects an "even carry split" between RBs Matt Forte and Bilal Powell this year, with a "slight edge" to Forte. That's a more extreme projection than the "timeshare system" we got from ESPN's Rich Cimini a couple of weeks ago. Powell certainly earned a bigger 2016 role with a strong performance last year. Forte, meanwhile, turns 31 in December and is already missing time with a hamstring injury. He's still our bet to lead this backfield in fantasy points, but Powell might be the better draft value. He's going in the 10th round on average, while Forte goes in the 4th.

Jets RB Matt Forte is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. We don't have any details on the severity or his timetable for return. Forte's absence will mean more 1st-team work for RB Bilal Powell, who was excellent down the stretch last year.

Jets insider Rich Cimini says not to be “surprised” if RB Khiry Robinson (broken leg) opens training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Robinson missed the entire offseason program, but Cimini notes that he “should” be ready for preseason action. If healthy, the former Saint has a chance to steal goal line work from Matt Forte. Still, it's tough to see him getting more than a handful of touches per game with Bilal Powell also in the picture. We’ll monitor the Jets backfield all summer long.

So much for Bilal Powell being the only other addition to the Jets backfield.  Per NFL Network's Albert Breer, the team is also signing RB Khiry Robinson.  The 26-year-old was never able to carve out a significant role in New Orleans, but he flashed in limited opportunities.  Sounds a bit like Chris Ivory, who flourished in New York.  Robinson is a long shot to see as much action as Ivory, but the 6'0, 220-pounder could earn a "big back" role behind Matt Forte.

The Jets have re-signed RB Bilal Powell, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  If this is the only other move they make at RB, consider it excellent news for Matt Forte.  Powell is a nice fit in OC Chan Gailey's offense and set career highs in yards per carry (4.5), catches (47) and receiving yards (388) this past year.  But he's topped 110 carries just once in 5 NFL seasons and profiles best as a change-of-pace back.  That what he figures to be in 2016 behind Forte.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is inactive for today's game against the Bills. Stevan Ridley will serve as the #2 RB, but Chris Ivory is now a good bet for about 20 touches. He’s a RB2 with upside.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game in Buffalo after missing practice all week. HC Todd Bowles said Friday he'll need to see what Powell can do Sunday morning before deciding on his status for the game. That doesn't bode well for Powell as a Week 17 fantasy option. We'll check on his status Sunday morning, but Powell's ankle could add upside to RB Chris Ivory.

Jets RB Chris Ivory injured his knee in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game against the Patriots.  He's considered questionable to return.  Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley will handle backfield work as long as Ivory is out.

Update: Ivory returned for the start of the 2nd half.

Jets RB Bilal Powell is over his ankle injury, according to insider Brian Costello, and is set to return for Sunday's game against the Texans.  Powell has been out since Week 6.  He averaged 11.3 carries and 4.3 catches per game over the first 3 games of the year.  Don't expect that type of workload moving forward, but Powell will siphon passing-down work from RB Chris Ivory.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is inactive for today’s game against the Jaguars. That means more passing-down work for Chris Ivory, who has tallied 5 catches on 7 targets with Powell out over the past 2 weeks.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. With Powell out the past 2 weeks, RB Chris Ivory has tallied 5 catches on 7 targets.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Zac Stacy will continue to serve as the #2 RB behind Chris Ivory. There’s also a chance that RB Stevan Ridley (ACL) makes his 2015 debut this week.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. That could mean a slight uptick in passing-down snaps for RB Chris Ivory, who hauled in all 3 of his targets for 50 yards last week. Zac Stacy will serve as New York’s #2 RB.

10:34am EDT 10/18/15

Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) is active for today’s game against the Redskins. He’ll handle most of the passing-down work but isn’t a viable fantasy option.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (groin) is listed as questionable and will be game-time decision for Sunday’s tilt with the Redskins. Powell isn't a fantasy option, but his absence would likely mean a few extra touches for RB Chris Ivory.

Jets RB Chris Ivory (groin) is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Eagles. He didn’t practice all week and will be a game-time decision. We’ll find out his status by noon ET on Sunday. If active, Ivory will be a risky RB2 at less than 100% against a tough run defense. If Ivory sits, RB Bilal Powell will likely lead the backfield in touches but cede some work to RB Zac Stacy.
