Jets HC Rex Ryan confirmed that his backfield will be a committee attack this season.  “I definitely think it’s going to be a committee approach," Ryan said. "When you have Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson and Bilal Powell, I think that’s a pretty safe bet ... These are three guys that are capable of being starters themselves, so I think we’ll play all of them."  While we're not expecting Powell to see more than a handful of touches per game, we are expecting a true committee with Johnson and Ivory.  It's why Johnson is overvalued at his 6th-round ADP and why Ivory is a value pick near the end of your draft.

Jets RB Chris Ivory told reporters after Sunday's loss that he injured his ankle on his 1st carry.  He never left the game, though, finishing with 9 totes for 35 yards.  It seemed like game flow had more to do with the limited workload than the injury.  Ivory will undergo an MRI tomorrow.  We'll update his status when we learn more.  RB Bilal Powell would step in as New York's feature back if Ivory misses time.

2:51pm EDT 10/5/13

Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) is probable for Monday night’s tilt with Atlanta.  Ivory missed last week with the injury and has seen Bilal Powell emerge over the last 2 games.  Ivory can’t be trusted in fantasy leagues, especially with Mike Goodson slated to make his Jets debut.

Jets insider Rich Cimini believes RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) has "a chance" to play against the Falcons on Monday night.  Ivory participated in individual drills the past 2 days and reportedly did more on Thursday than he did Wednesday.  We'll continue to track his status over the next couple days, but Ivory won't be a recommended fantasy starter even if he ends up playing on Monday.  He would, however, put a dent in Bilal Powell's fantasy upside.

Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Titans.  He didn’t practice all week and might be looking at a multi-week absence.  RB Bilal Powell is a decent bet for 20+ touches on Sunday, making him a RB2 option in fantasy.

Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday.  He didn't return after injuring the hammy last weekend and is not expected to play against the Titans on Sunday.  Bilal Powell will serve as New York's feature back.

Matt Ehalt of ESPN New York reports that the Jets "are not expecting a quick recovery" for RB Chris Ivory from his hamstring injury.  It's not clear, though, exactly where he came up with that info.  Ehalt only quoted HC Rex Ryan in the report, who said merely that the team would update us further on Ivory's status Wednesday with the release of the Week 4 injury report.  Ivory hurt his left hamstring, which is the same one that kept him out for 2 weeks during training camp.  Ryan said it's a different location this time at least.  We certainly aren't optimistic for Ivory's availability over the next couple of weeks, but we'll see what the team says Wednesday.  RB Bilal Powell gets an obvious boost in the meantime.

A hamstring injury knocked Jets RB Chris Ivory out of Sunday's game.  Remember that Ivory also missed most of August with hamstring trouble.  It's unclear if this was an aggravation.  Ivory finished with just 4 carries for 5 yards against the Bills.  RB Bilal Powell responded by ripping off 149 yards on 27 carries.  We should get an update on Ivory's status Monday afternoon.

Jets RB coach Anthony Lynn gave some insight into the team's Week 1 backfield plans.  “Chris Ivory will be in the game in a lot of goal line and a lot of short-yardage situations come Sunday,” Lynn said. “I think (Bilal Powell’s) one of the best third-down backs in the league. I think he’s more than reliable on third down, so he’ll definitely be out there third down for us. I’m going to try to get them through this game as fresh as possible... because we have a Thursday night game (next week). So you don’t want to give one guy too much of a workload because you want to be able to play on Thursday night.”  We're looking at a full-fledged committee for the season-opener.  Ivory's goal-line role and talent edge makes him the better fantasy bet.  But he's an uninspiring RB3 against a Bucs defense that ranked 7th in fantasy points allowed to RBs last year.

Jets RB Bilal Powell remains ahead of RB Chris Ivory on the team's depth chart.  It's still a bit surprising, given the team's trade for Ivory and his superior skills.  But Powell has been running ahead of Ivory all preseason and outproduced him 98 yards to 28 on nearly twice as many carries (27 to 14).  So fantasy owners could see this coming.  The Jets have to hope Ivory emerges in season to add upside to the backfield.  The team needs playmakers.  If neither impresses over the 1st 4 games, RB Mike Goodson could find opportunity.  He'll miss those contests because of a suspension.

Jets RB Chris Ivory played behind RB Bilal Powell on Saturday night.  Ivory didn't enter until the 2nd drive and then rotated with Powell with the 1st-team offense.  Ivory finished with just 15 yards on his 8 carries.  Perhaps the Jets are trying to keep the oft-injured Ivory fresh for Week 1.  But he's averaging just 2 yards per carry across 2 exhibitions.  Powell is averaging an only-slightly-better 3.6.  It's worth noting that insider Rich Cimini reported a few weeks ago that the Jets were planning to get Ivory only 15 carries per game.  That's looking like a good guess at least for his early-season workload.

Jets RB Chris Ivory admitted to the New York Daily News that he "probably won't play" in Friday night's preseason opener against the Lions.  Ivory has been out with a hamstring injury but says he'll "definitely" return to practice early next week.  "I'll definitely be full speed," he said.  "I'm almost there."  We'll get more optimistic when we actually see it ... and when Ivory can stay healthy.  If he does, he'll carry big fantasy upside into his 1st season as a starter.  RB Bilal Powell stands to lead the backfield against Detroit.

The depleted Jets backfield has given a big opportunity to Jets reserve RB Bilal Powell.  The Newark Star-Ledger reported that Powell played every down with the 1st-string offense in a scrimmage on Saturday.  RBs Chris Ivory and Joe McKnight are currently working through injuries, while RB Mike Goodson is still missing from camp due to legal issues.  That leaves Powell as the lone capable producer for the time being.  Powell averaged 4.0 yards per carry last year on his way to 437 yards and 4 TDs.  He also caught 17 balls for 140 yards.  He's not quite on the fantasy radar yet but could be if Ivory and Goodson can't get on the field soon.  This is a messy situation worth monitoring closely this month.

Amid all the draft hoopla, the Saints agreed to trade RB Chris Ivory to the Jets in exchange for a 4th-round pick.  This deal has been bandied about for the past couple weeks, and we were hoping it'd be made.  Ivory has had trouble getting on the field among a crowded Saints backfield.  But he has three 100-yard efforts to his name and has averaged 5.1 yards per carry in limited action.  Ivory is a powerful, violent runner with sneaky speed.  His running style has also led to consistent durability problems.  But a healthy Ivory shouldn't have trouble beating out Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell for New York's starting job.  Finally set to see a significant workload, Ivory will carry RB2 potential in 2013 fantasy leagues.

7:33pm EST 12/17/12

Jets RB Bilal Powell (toe) is active for tonight's game against the Titans.  He only got in 2 limited practices this week and will likely play a smaller role than usual.  Backfield mate Shonn Greene is a better fantasy option tonight.

12:13pm EST 12/14/12

Jets RB Bilal Powell (toe) missed practice again on Friday.  Contrary to a previous report, x-rays on the injured toe came back negative.  It sounds like he might be dealing with turf toe then.  HC Rex Ryan remains optimistic about Powell's chances of playing against the Titans on Monday night, but we're expecting a reduced workload.  He's a weak fantasy option.  RB Shonn Greene is a good bet to approach 20 carries.

Jets RB Bilal Powell fractured his toe during last week's game against the Jaguars.  He sat out practice on Thursday, but HC Rex Ryan believes Powell has a chance to play on Monday night.  "I think he'll be ok with that," Ryan said.  "I feel like he'll have a chance to go. That's what's been explained to me."  RBs usually struggle with toe injuries though.  Even if Powell plays, we're expecting to see less of him and more of Shonn Greene.

Jets HC Rex Ryan confirmed that the team wants to go forward with a committee attack at RB with Shonn Greene, Bilal Powell, and Joe McKnight.  "I think it is the ideal scenario for us because we have three very capable backs," Ryan said. "Instead of just throwing one guy in there all the time to take all the hits and all the protections and the routes and all that.  You kind of divide that role up. I think for us it's good.  If you have the talent, when the guys are healthy and all that, fresh, I think that's the best way."  Against the Rams on Sunday, Greene finished with 18 touches, Powell with 13, and McKnight with 5.  Powell actually led the way with 28 snaps though.  Greene had 26 and McKnight had 7.  Based on that game, Greene looks like the early-down pounder; Powell the 3rd-down and red zone back; and McKnight a change-of-pace.  A healthy workload was the only thing keeping Greene in low-end RB2 territory.  If he continues to share carries, he won't be much of a fantasy option at all.

Jets RBs Bilal Powell (shoulder) and Joe McKnight (ankle) were unable to practice all week.  Powell is listed as doubtful, while McKnight is questionable.  Neither guy is expected to play against the Patriots on Sunday though.  Undrafted rookie Jonathan Grimes will serve as the #2 RB, and we could see Tim Tebow take on a bigger ball-carrying role too.  Of course, Shonn Greene will continue to operate as the lead back.

Jets RB Bilal Powell went down with a shoulder injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Colts.  He's been ruled out for the rest of the game, hinting at a potentially serious injury.  RB Shonn Greene, meanwhile, is enjoying his best game of the season.
