Byron Maxwell Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Dolphins CB Byron Maxwell (ankle) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the Bills. LB Kiko Alonso (hamstring) is questionable. He played through that designation last week, but we'll check on his status when the inactive lists come out.

NFL Network reports that CB Byron Maxwell's shoulder checked out and that the trade sending him to Miami will go through Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles will send Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins for a 5-spot move up in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. Philly will now pick 8th, while Miami will pick 13th. That doesn't seem like a big price for a pair of potential defensive starters, but the Eagles clearly wanted to unload Maxwell's big contract as well.

Pro Football Talk reports that the Dolphins have rescinded the transition tag they placed on DE Olivier Vernon. The tag already would have allowed Vernon to negotiate with other teams. Removing the tag allows his camp to talk to potential suitors before Wednesday afternoon's official start for free agency. It also takes away Miami's power to match any offer sheet Vernon might sign. We expect 1 of the top pass rushers on the market to land a big deal somewhere else -- probably quickly. In other Dolphins defensive news, the shoulder injury that ended Eagles CB Byron Maxwell's 2015 season early is reportedly threatening the trade that would send him and LB Kiko Alonso to Miami. We'll see how this one plays out.

The Associated Press reports that the Eagles have agreed to trade CB Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick. The deal reportedly won't be officially announced until Wednesday. Philly signed Maxwell to a large free-agent deal just last offseason, when Chip Kelly was running personnel. Kelly also traded RB LeSean McCoy to Buffalo for Alonso, only to watch the LB suffer a knee injury in Week 2 and never return to full playing time. The Dolphins pick up a pair of potential immediate starters at positions of weakness. The Eagles likely viewed Alonso as expendable given their switch to a 4-3 base under new DC Jim Schwartz and the 2015 emergence of rookie LB Jordan Hicks. He and Kendricks could prove to be strong IDP options in the rearranged defense. We would expect no higher than a mid-round pick to go Philly's way, given Maxwell's big contract and Alonso's 2 straight seasons with knee injuries. Of course, both players will need to pass physicals to finalize the deal.

Eagles CB Byron Maxwell suffered a sprained SC joint in Sunday night's loss to the Cardinals and might miss Saturday's game against Washington, according to Philly.com. Fellow starter CB Eric Rowe -- filling in for injured starter Nolan Carroll -- is also down with a concussion. Monday offered no update on his status. Obviously, missing their top 3 corners would not help the Eagles against a hot QB in Kirk Cousins and top WR DeSean Jackson. D-Jax burned Philly for 117+ yards in each meeting last year after Chip Kelly cut him in the offseason. Jackson missed this season's 1st meeting.

Eagles CB Byron Maxwell will get an MRI today to determine the damage to the shoulder he injured in Sunday night's loss to the Cardinals, according to NJ.com. X-rays during the game came back negative, but Maxwell never returned to action and was reportedly in obvious pain when speaking with reporters afterward. He looks iffy for Saturday's game against Washington. If Philly's missing him and fellow starter Eric Rowe (concussion), the defense would be down to E.J. Biggers and rookie Jaylen Watkins vs. Kirk Cousins and crew. We could see more big Washington passing numbers in this one.

The Eagles lost LB Mychal Kendricks and CB Byron Maxwell to injuries on their 1st defensive drive of the game. Kendricks tweaked the hamstring injury that cost him Week 3 and is questionable to return, according to FOX's game crew. Maxwell hurt a quad and is also questionable -- but reportedly more likely to return today than Kendricks. LB Jordan Hicks helped keep Washington out of the end zone in his 1st action with a nice tackle on RB Chris Thompson. Hicks has played terrifically in recent weeks in Kendricks' place.

CB Byron Maxwell told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Sunday, "I'm going to Philly." There had been reports of a 5-year agreement worth a little more than $50 million. Maxwell ranked 45th among 108 CBs in overall Pro Football Focus grade last year. He also finished 39th in coverage, 1 spot behind Cary Williams, whom the Eagles released earlier this offseason. Maxwell did, however, rank 16th overall and 13th in coverage in 2013. A weak CB crop on the free-agent market and a shaky rookie class at the position undoubtedly helped to make him money this offseason. We'll see if the deal works out for the Eagles.

Seahawks CB Byron Maxwell suffered a calf strain in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.  The injury might prove less serious than the initially feared high-ankle sprain, but a calf strain has caused Eagles LB Mychal Kendricks to miss the past 4 games.  Maxwell's expected to miss at least most of the practice week and looks highly questionable for Sunday's trip to St. Louis.  IDP owners shouldn't be scrambling to replace a fringe option, but the injury could help Rams QB Austin Davis a bit for his Week 7 matchup.
