Broncos RB C.J. Anderson is expected to miss "at least a few weeks" with bone bruise in his knee, according to insider Mike Garafolo. Anderson is getting a 2nd opinion today to determine the exact extent of the damage. We should get a more concrete timetable for his return later this week, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that "being out for the season is also possible." RB Devontae Booker will take over as Denver's lead (feature?) back for as long as Anderson is out. The rookie has been impressive this year, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and 7.7 yards per catch. RB Kapri Bibbs moves up to the #2 spot on the depth chart with Anderson out.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson missed Wednesday's practice to get a 2nd opinion on a knee injury suffered last week, according to insider Mike Klis. Anderson played through the issue in Monday night's win over the Chargers. "There is hope the injury could be minor in nature, although it’s also possible he could miss an extended period," Klis writes. We'll update this situation as soon as we learn more. RB Devontae Booker, who had already turned Denver's backfield into a committee, obviously needs to be owned in all leagues.

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak said Monday that RB Devontae Booker "deserves some more opportunities." The rookie has averaged 4.7 yards per carry through 6 games vs. just 3.5 for C.J. Anderson. "When he's had some opportunities he's done some really good things," Kubiak said of Booker. "As a young player, we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things, and he's starting to handle himself better." Kubiak added that Anderson will "still be involved plenty," and he remains the better fantasy bet for now. But this will be a situation to keep a close eye on. Booker should be owned in most fantasy leagues.

Broncos RB Devontae Booker entered Saturday night's game 2nd in the backfield behind C.J. Anderson. He carried 8 times for 39 yards in the 1st half, while RB Ronnie Hillman didn't see a touch until after halftime. Unless those 2 flip roles for the 3rd preseason game, Booker looks like the leader for backup duties. That makes him an attractive handcuff pick in fantasy football drafts behind a starter with no full seasons of starting duty behind him. Anderson, meanwhile, looked good against the NIners as well. His 6 carries for 30 yards included a bouncing 19-yard TD scamper. Denver figures to lean on the running game as much as possible, with shaky QB play.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson checked into training camp at 217 pounds -- 7 less than his listed weight. It's showing on the field. Andrew Mason of the team's official website noted that Anderson "looked quick when he made his cuts in the backfield" during Thursday's practice. Insider Cecil Lammey said Anderson "looks faster than I've ever seen him, very swift as a runner or receiver out of the backfield." The clear lead back in what figures to be a run-heavy offense, Anderson has tons of fantasy upside. He's a nice target at his 4th-round ADP.

Broncos insider Cameron Wolfe calls RB C.J. Anderson the "heart of the offense." That's been QB Peyton Manning for the past 4 seasons. But with Manning gone, Denver is expected to lean more on the running game in 2016. Note that HC Gary Kubiak's offenses have ranked top 11 in rushing attempts in 13 of 21 seasons. Anderson is the strong favorite to lead the backfield this year. Wolfe believes he "has the potential to be a 1,500-yard rusher."

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak praised RB C.J. Anderson. "C.J. is ready to be an every-down guy," Kubiak said. "Just watching him, I think his condition level is the best that I’ve seen it since I’ve been here. You all watch him practice. He’s had a really good offseason.” Per beat writer Jeff Legwold, Kubiak is intent on “pumping up” the Denver run game. GM John Elway is reportedly “on board.” It’s all good news for Anderson, who should see 250+ touches in 2016.

Denver RB Devontae Booker will sit out the teams’ first set of OTAs. The session runs from May 24 to May 26, but the 4th-round pick needs more time to recover from a torn meniscus in his left knee. We’ll keep a close eye on his health moving forward. There’s certainly time for the Utah standout to put pressure on starter C.J. Anderson.

Devontae Booker was the #2 RB on the Broncos' board, GM John Elway revealed.  Denver was able to snag Booker in the 4th round as the 7th RB selected.  “He’s a guy that has got great ball skills,” Elway said. “He runs very tough. [He’s] a very tough runner and really does a nice job after contact."  Booker dropped largely because of a torn meniscus that ended his 2015 season, but he says he's currently back to 90%.  "Greek [Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos] felt good about where that was and the situation where we were [at]," Elway added.  Booker joins C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman in the Broncos backfield.  It shouldn't take the rookie long to dispatch Hillman, and he could quickly put heat on Anderson.  It'll be a situation to monitor closely in HC Gary Kubiak's RB-friendly offense.

The Broncos have reached a new 1-year deal with RB Ronnie Hillman, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com. This comes after reports of negotiations "heating up" between the sides, making the 1-year term anti-climactic. It's significantly less than the 4-year, $19 million offer that Denver matched to keep RB C.J. Anderson from heading to Miami. Expect Anderson to enter the season as the starter and Hillman the #2 -- unless the NFL Draft brings another contender for work. Hillman beat Anderson in carries, rushing yards and TDs last season but averaged 0.5 less per rush and 2.7 yards less per reception.

The Broncos have matched the Dolphins’ offer sheet for RB C.J. Anderson, keeping him in Denver. For now, Anderson looks like a potential workhorse, although the Broncos will certainly add to their backfield in the coming weeks. Miami, meanwhile, must look elsewhere for a RB to pair with Jay Ajayi. Expect them to add depth via the draft and free agency.

The Dolphins have offered restricted free-agent RB C.J. Anderson a 4-year, $18 million offer sheet.  The Broncos now have 5 days to match the offer and retain Anderson.  If they don't, he'll head to Miami and Denver will receive no compensation.  Anderson was reportedly also drawing interest from the Bears and Patriots but clearly wants to reunite with Dolphins HC Adam Gase, who called plays in Denver when Anderson broke out in 2014.  He'd be the favorite for lead-back duties if he ends up Miami, squashing RB Jay Ajayi's fantasy outlook.  Stay tuned.

The Broncos have issued a low-round tender on restricted free-agent RB C.J. Anderson, according to insider Mike Klis.  That'll set up Anderson to make about $1.7 million on the 1-year deal.  But it also opens him up to offers from other teams.  Denver has the right to match any offer and retain Anderson but would receive no compensation if they don't.  It's a curious move for a guy who appeared primed to be the Broncos' lead back in 2016.  Perhaps the team isn't as high on him as we thought.  We'll continue to track the situation.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is active for today’s game against the Steelers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said this morning that Anderson is ready for a “full workload.” That makes him the best fantasy bet in Denver’s backfield, but the timeshare and a tough Pittsburgh run defense leave Anderson as a low-end RB2.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is expected to receive a "full workload" against the Steelers today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  Anderson put in 2 limited practices this week after failing to get on the field last Sunday.  He averaged 16.5 touches across his 2 previous games, though, and could flirt with that mark today.  The ankle issue and a tough Steelers run defense still leaves Anderson as a lower-end RB2, but he's now the top fantasy play in Denver's backfield.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is questionable for this weekend’s game against the Steelers after putting in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. He figures to be active, but is role is a total question mark after he never got on the field last week. Anderson can’t be trusted in Week 15 fantasy lineups.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) returned to a limited practice on Thursday, his 1st since injuring his ankle in Week 13.  He'll be active for this weekend's game against the Steelers, but his role is uncertain.  Unless Anderson puts in a full workout on Friday, he'll be impossible to trust in fantasy lineups.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) remained sidelined on Wednesday.  It's a not a good start in his quest to get back for this weekend's game against the Steelers.  We'll update Anderson's status again tomorrow.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is active for today’s game against the Raiders. He’s not expected to play a big role, potentially slotting in as the #3 RB behind Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson. Anderson shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson will be "very limited if he plays" against the Raiders today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  That's the vibe we got from HC Gary Kubiak on Friday.  Anderson can't be in Week 14 fantasy lineups.  RB Ronnie Hillman will start vs. Oakland, with RB Juwan Thompson likely serving as the #2 RB.
