Broncos insider Troy Renck confirms that Ronnie Hillman has passed Montee Ball for the #2 RB spot on the depth chart.  We assumed as much when Hillman was the 2nd RB in with the 1st team offense in the 2nd preseason game.  He's had an excellent start to the preseason, averaging 7.5 yards per carry on 16 totes.  "(Hillman) has had a really good camp. He's the guy in the group that is a little bit different — (he has) the gear to get the ball to the edge," HC Gary Kubiak said. "He's responded. He deserves more reps."  Hillman isn't pushing RB C.J. Anderson for the lead job, and we don't expect him to.  But he's emerged as the clear-cut Anderson handcuff.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman appears to have passed RB Montee Ball for the #2 spot on the depth chart.  Hillman was the 2nd back in with the 1st-team offense (behind C.J. Anderson) in Saturday night's preseason game.  He finished with 54 yards on 8 carries.  Hillman is now averaging a stout 7.5 yards per carry this preseason.  He's worth stashing in deeper leagues and would turn into a must-start if Anderson goes down.

The Broncos have "no concern" about the ankle RB C.J. Anderson tweaked in Friday night's preseason contest, according to insider Cecil Lammey.  "Wouldn't be surprised if he practices Monday," Lammey adds.  We'll keep an eye on Anderson, but don't move him in your fantasy football rankings.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson got his ankle rolled up on in the 1st quarter of Friday night's game at Seattle. The team's broadcast team announced it was "nothing serious," though, so we'll assume that's true unless we hear anything else.

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak isn't a committee backfield kind of guy.  "I can tell you this, I believe in the (bell cow)," he said. "And I believe it's up to the player to prove he can do that. I think if a guy goes out there and he shows he can play three downs, can protect the quarterback, and can handle it, then he should stay out there."  Kubiak has had 5 RBs finish among the top 10 in rush attempts over the last 9 years.  Insider Troy Renck confirms that the bell-cow role is "C.J. Anderson's to lose."  Unless he stumbles over the next month, Anderson will carry top 5 fantasy upside.

Broncos insider Troy Renck threw out a prediction of 1,400 rushing yards for RB C.J. Anderson this season.  Renck calls Anderson "a bowling ball with legs" and believes he'll be "physically prepared for the grind" this year.  Anderson had some conditioning issues last season but still rolled up 767 yards on a 4.8 per-carry average over the final 8 games.  Our 2015 projection for Anderson isn't quite as lofty as Renck's, but 1,400 yards certainly isn't out of the question.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson remains atop the depth chart as the team wraps up spring workouts this week.  He's taken the most 1st-team reps, according to insider Jeff Legwold.  And Anderson drew more praise from HC Gary Kubiak this week. "I think in this league as coaches you look for guys that can be three-down players," Kubiak said. "He has a knack for protection, he's very bright in protection. So he's a guy that’s not going to leave the field -- as much as he can stand. And that's what the great ones do, so that gives him an excellent chance."  Kubiak has long favored deploying a feature back, and it looks like Anderson will be that guy.  That gives him high-end RB1 upside.  Remember that Anderson led all RBs in fantasy points over the final 8 games of 2014.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson reported to OTAs this week at 221 pounds.  That's 2 pounds lighter than he finished at last season and 22 pounds below his weight at this time last year.  "I am taking this to the next level," Anderson said. "Everybody — fans, media, coaches — has this huge expectation of me. And I have huge expectations of myself. My motto this year is: 'Prove everybody right.'"  The Broncos are making Anderson earn the starting job this offseason, splitting 1st-team reps between him and Montee Ball this spring.  But if Anderson plays like he did last season -- when he averaged 4.7 yards per carry and scored 10 TDs over the final 8 games -- he won't have any trouble winning that gig.  And the starting job in a Gary Kubiak offense has historically produced big fantasy numbers (see: Terrell Davis, Arian Foster, Justin Forsett).

Denver RBs C.J. Anderson and Montee Ball split 1st team snaps in OTAs on Thursday. Beat writer Mike Klis still calls Anderson the starter, but he’ll need a solid summer to keep Ball off of his tail. The Broncos aren’t going to just hand the job to Anderson, a 24-year-old with just 7 NFL starts under his belt – especially with a new coaching staff in town. HC Gary Kubiak has signaled that Anderson is the starter, though, and we fully expect him to earn that role. His performance over the last 6 weeks of 2014 placed him 2nd in fantasy scoring.

Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders told reporters after practice Wednesday that the offensive scheme of new HC Gary Kubiak makes for "a totally different setup." Sanders said he doesn't expect to catch as many passes in an offense that will employ less no-huddle and "get the run game going." Before you go expecting a big shift in offensive balance, though, realize that Denver actually ranked 14th most run-heavy in the league last year based on pass-run split. That means the share of passing plays -- 58.5% -- ranked just 19th. Kubiak's huddle-up approach might slow the pace overall and produce fewer offensive snaps, but we wouldn't bet on the Broncos dipping much below last year's passing share -- if at all. Sanders is right to caution as that he probably won't match last year's 101-1404-9 receiving line, but fantasy drafters were already taking him just 14th among WRs in MFL10 drafting after Sanders finished 5th in PPR last season. While you might see others treating Sanders' revelation as big fantasy news, it doesn't look nearly so big from here. We'll certainly be watching Denver through the spring and summer to see how much things might actually change, though.

The Broncos are set to hire Gary Kubiak as their new HC.  He returns to Denver after spending 1995-2005 there as an assistant.  Kubiak helped turn the Ravens offense around this past year, finishing 11th in total yards after ranking 29th in 2013.  Prior to that, Kubiak spent 8 seasons as the Texans HC.  All but 1 of those teams ranked among the top 14 in total yards, with 4 posting top-7 finishes.  This is a well-established offensive mind joining a team with plenty of firepower.  Of course, Denver's 2015 outlook depends heavily on whether QB Peyton Manning returns.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (foot) is active for today’s game against the Raiders. He figures to see just a handful of touches in his 1st action since Week 10. C.J. Anderson remains a good bet for 20+ touches.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (foot) put in a full week of practice and is probable for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. It’ll be his 1st action since Week 10. Hillman only figures to see a handful of touches behind RB C.J. Anderson and isn’t a fantasy option. Anderson remains a clear RB1.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (foot) is inactive for tonight’s game against the Bengals. C.J. Anderson will continue to carry the load for Denver.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is inactive for the 6th straight week with a foot injury. No fantasy owners were holding out hope for him, but his absence can only help RB C.J. Anderson continue to dominate the backfield workload as a runner and pass-catcher. RB Juwan Thompson is active despite being questionable with a hip injury, but he hasn't threatened Anderson's role.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is active for today’s game against the Chargers. That ankle shouldn’t be an issue. The red-hot Anderson is a RB1 for Week 15.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is probable for this weekend’s game against the Chargers after putting in a full practice on Friday. The ankle isn’t a concern. Anderson is a RB1 in a matchup with the league’s 13th-ranked RB defense.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman could miss as many as 6 weeks with his foot injury. Previous reports had Hillman out 2-3 weeks, but foot injuries tend to be tricky. The long end of Hillman’s timetable would knock him out through Week 16. Even if he’s back earlier, he’ll likely return to a smaller role. Hillman is droppable in shallow fantasy leagues. C.J. Anderson will get the 1st crack at lead-back duties, but don’t be surprised if Montee Ball quickly earns a bigger role. Both guys should be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman will miss “at least” 2 weeks with a mid-foot sprain suffered in Sunday’s win over the Raiders, according to insider Mike Klis. It’s surprising news because Hillman never officially left the game, and the team didn’t update his status afterward. Regardless, he’ll miss Denver’s next 2 games against the Rams and Dolphins. We’d hang on to Hillman if you can afford to burn the roster spot. He could still be an asset in the fantasy football playoffs. His role upon return will likely hinge on the performance of Denver’s other RBs, though. C.J. Anderson was excellent against the Raiders and figures to play a significant role these next 2 weeks. Denver will also get Montee Ball (groin) back this Sunday from his 5-week absence. Down 12 pounds, Ball could re-assume the lead job if he looks more like the player he did last year.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman sprained his ankle in Sunday's game against the Raiders.  He was able to play through it, but his last touch came midway through the 3rd quarter of the blowout.  The team didn't update his status afterward, but beat writer Mike Klis noticed Hillman limping in the locker room.  We'll monitor his status this coming week, but Hillman is shaping up as a shaky Week 11 fantasy option.  RB C.J. Anderson thoroughly out-played Hillman against Oakland.  And RB Montee Ball (groin) is expected back this weekend.
