Washington S Dashon Goldson (shoulder, rib) is active for today's game against the Packers, despite entering the weekend questionable. ILB Perry Riley (foot) is inactive, however, leaving more snaps for LBs Will Compton and Mason Foster, with Keenan Robinson rotating in.

Washington has ruled S Dashon Goldson (rib, shoulder) out for Sunday's game in Dallas. We had already left the starter out of our Week 17 IDP rankings, anticipating at least a reduced role in a game that means nothing for Washington.

Washington S Dashon Goldson (rib) is officially questionable for Sunday's game, finding himself listed with rib, knee and shoulder issues. Goldson did put in limited practices Thursday and Friday after sitting out Wednesday.

Washington has acquired S Dashon Goldson and a 7th-round pick from the Bucs for a 6th-round selection. The minuscule price makes it clear that Tampa was simply done with the bad contract and underperforming player. But Goldson will likely compete for a starting spot in a Washington secondary that has struggled at safety since Sean Taylor's 2007 murder. Goldson has delivered usable IDP value at times in the past and might crack the top 30 DBs in our 2015 IDP rankings if he wins a job.

Bucs S Dashon Goldson (ankle) is active today against the Vikings for the 1st time since Week 4. He's an OK IDP option and adds some turnover upside to the Bucs D against a shaky Minnesota offense that will be playing in Tampa.

The league has suspended Buccaneers S Dashon Goldson for a game following his helmet-to-helmet hit on Falcons WR Roddy White in Week 11.  It's the 2nd time the league has suspended Goldson for illegal hits this year, but he got the 1st overturned on appeal.  Expect this 1 to stick and to only make life easier for Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford in their Week 12 matchup.

Bucs S Dashon Goldson is inactive for today's visit to Seattle with a knee injury.  Fellow S Mark Barron (hip) is active, however.  He still faces a tough matchup for his fantasy outlook and carries lagging numbers into the game.  You should have a better IDP option.

Bucs S Dashon Goldson (knee) is inactive for tonight's game against the Panthers.  That shouldn't hurt many IDP lineups.  Goldson's not a strong fantasy performer, and Carolina presents 1 of the league's worst matchups for fantasy DBs.  His absence can only help Panthers QB Cam Newton, though.

Buccaneers S Dashon Goldson had his 1-game suspension overturned Wednesday.  The league had docked Goldson a game for his helmet-to-helmet hit Sunday against Saints RB Darren Sproles.  That followed 2 other similar infractions in the opener, which drew a combined $30,000 in fines.  Goldson must pay a $100,000 fine for the Sproles hit, but he'll be in Sunday's lineup against the Patriots.  That's bad news for QB Tom Brady and his ragtag receiver group.

The NFL has suspended Bucs S Dashon Goldson 1 game for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Saints RB Darren Sproles on Sunday.  That incident followed 2 similar instances in Week 1 that drew a combined $30,000 in fines.  Goldson needs to change the way he's playing or risk missing further time.  Any IDP owners counting on him obviously need to find another DB for Week 3.  Ahmad Black is listed as Goldson's backup on the team website.

The Niners jumped from 31 up to 18 to draft LSU S Eric Reid.  The former Tiger figures to start right away in FS Dashon Goldson's old slot.  Reid delivered 91 tackles in his final college season.  He grabbed 6 INTs and broke up 11 other passes over 3 seasons.  He fills a slot in which Goldson provided inconsistent fantasy value.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed FS Dashon Goldson for 5 years at $41.25 million. The former Niner got his big payday 2 years after returning to San Francisco on a 1-year "prove it" deal and a season after claiming the Niners' franchise tag. Goldson was easily the best cover safety on the market. He'll immediately help the deep-coverage shortcomings that plagued the Bucs last season. Goldson's presence could allow 2nd-year SS Mark Barron to creep a little closer to the line. Goldson's fantasy value will depend on big plays, making him a tough DB to count on in your IDP league. His arrival might signal the end of Ronde Barber's career.

The deadline passed today without Niners franchise player FS Dashon Goldson getting a long-term deal. That sets Goldson up for yet another contract year -- his 3rd in a row. He performed well in 2011 under a 1-year contract after injuries limited his effectiveness in 2010. A healthy Goldson comes with lots of big-play upside and top-10 scoring potential among DBs.

The Niners have chosen to apply the franchise tag to FS DaShon Goldson. The move was anticipated but is still a little surprising, given that CB Carlos Rogers is also facing free agency. Goldson is coming off a 6-INT season, though. And his position carries a cheaper tag number. Goldson still needs to pick up his tackle numbers to become a dependable IDP option, but he's certainly draftable in leagues with multiple DB slots.

49ers S DaShon Goldson expects to be inactive for Sunday's matchup with Seattle because of knee soreness. Goldson has been out of practice for the past week. Madieu Williams is expected to start in his place. Williams never delivered any big-play promise in Minnesota and isn't worth much of a look -- even against Tarvaris Jackson.

S Dashon Goldson has re-signed with the 49ers on a 1-year deal. It's a very anti-climactic finish for a guy who hoped to cash in as an unrestricted free agent. Goldson spent the past 2 years starting at FS for the Niners and should be a given to do so again this year. He should also be in for a return to his big-play ways of 2009. Goldson was limited by myriad injuries in 2010, though he didn't miss a game. Recent signee S Madieu Williams might have trouble making the active roster, with S Reggie Smith likely to stick as a backup. Goldson was a top-15 fantasy DB in 2009 and continues to carry that upside.

GM Trent Baalke admitted this week that re-signing S Dashon Goldson will be a priority once free agency opens. Goldson didn't miss any games last year, but his numbers tumbled as he played through myriad injuries. Rather than worry about the 2010 outcome, we think his performance showed that he's tough as well as talented. Goldson figures to be a sought-after free agent, so we'll see if the Niners can retain him. Wherever he goes, he'll bring big-play upside.
