DeAngelo Williams Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Most Recent Shark Bites

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is not expected to play against the Lions today, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  That's not a surprise after he was unable to practice on Thursday or Friday.  Jonathan Stewart will serve as Carolina's lead back and is likely looking at 15 or so touches.  The matchup is tough, though, so consider J-Stew just a RB3 or flex.  He'll be spelled by RBs Mike Tolbert and Fozzy Whitaker.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is questionable for this weekend's game against the Lions.  He was added to the injury report on Thursday and missed the final 2 practices of the week.  That, plus a matchup against a tough Detroit run defense, makes Williams an unattractive Week 2 fantasy option.  If he can't go, Jonathan Stewart would step in as Carolina's lead back

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams was held out of Thursday's practice with a quad injury.  He practiced on Wednesday but woke up sore today, according to insider Joe Person.  Check back tomorrow for an update on Williams' status.  He's not a strong fantasy play against a tough Lions front this week.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart scored a pair of TDs Sunday night in the Panthers' 2nd preseason game.  Stewart followed RB DeAngelo Williams, who played Carolina's 1st 3 drives.  But Stewart still saw time with the 1st team and scored from 2 and 3 yards out.  Stewart also looked better than Williams in taking his 4 carries for 26 yards.  Williams carries little upside into his age-31 season, and we've seen the Panthers split the job in the past when both high-priced backs are healthy.  That makes Stewart a low-risk buy late in your fantasy football draft, where he won't hurt you much the next time he gets injured.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart has been constantly dealing with injuries since entering the league back in 2008.  He's missed 19 games and been limited in a bunch more.  But Stewart is supposedly enjoying his healthiest offseason in a while.  "Very excited about having Jonathan on the field," HC Ron Rivera said. "He's healthy again. He's moving the way we need him to move. I like what we're getting out of him. Even Jonathan is saying this is the first time he's been healthy [in a while]. So that's a good thing."  We remain skeptical of Stewart's ability to stay healthy.  And he still has DeAngelo Williams, Mike Tolbert and Cam Newton to contend with for carries.  But Carolina wants to go run-heavy this season, and Stewart is still only 27.  His ADP is sitting in the 17th round, which means he's going undrafted in a lot of league.  Stewart isn't a bad flier to take at the end of drafts.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is inactive for today's game against the 49ers. It's surprising news after he practiced all week. The news makes RB DeAngelo Williams a safer fantasy play, although a tough Niners run D limits his upside.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's playoff game against the 49ers.  He put in a full week of practice, though, and is fully expected to play.  Look for Stewart to get 6-10 touches as a change-of-pace behind DeAngelo Williams.

Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) and Jonathan Stewart (knee) were on the practice field on Wednesday.  Barring a setback, both guys should be available for this weekend's game against the 49ers.  Smith will step back in as Carolina's top target in the passing game, while Stewart figures to serve only as a change-up behind DeAngelo Williams.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) participated in Wednesday's walkthrough.  It puts him on track to play in Carolina's 1st playoff game in 11 days.  Stewart averaged 9.4 carries and 1.2 catches in 5 games before going down with that torn MCL in Week 14.  Look for him to get 6-10 touches behind RB DeAngelo Williams in the Divisional Round.

The forecast for today's Saints-Panthers game calls for winds of 15-17 mph with rain starting at 2 pm local time.  That makes a tough matchup for QB Drew Brees even tougher.  According to Yahoo.com's split stats, Brees has averaged 279 passing yards with 48 total TDs and 24 INTs in 24 career "windy" games.  (It's unclear what qualifies as "windy.")  The weather conditions should benefit the Panthers, who figure to go with a run-heavy attack.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera confirmed that RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) won't play against the Saints on Sunday.  He'll be re-evaluated next week but remains unlikely to play before the postseason.  His absence means another healthy workload for RB DeAngelo Williams.  We like him as a solid RB2 against New Orleans' leaky run defense.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart has a torn MCL. It’s generally a 4-6 week injury, so he's almost certainly out for the regular season.  DeAngelo Williams’ backfield grip becomes a bit tighter with the news, though Mike Tolbert will continue to spell him.  Carolina faces the Jets this week before a rematch with New Orleans.  Williams gained 52 yards on 13 carries Sunday night against the Saints.  He’s a viable fantasy play in that matchup, but we’d avoid him as a RB2 against the Jets elite run D.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart suffered a knee injury in Sunday night's loss to the Saints.  He was able to jog to the sidelines but eventually headed back to the locker room.  He came back to the sidelines with his right leg heavily wrapped.  The Charlotte Observer calls the injury "serious" but provides no other details.  Stewart is scheduled for an MRI today.  If he misses time, DeAngelo Williams will be back on the RB2 radar.  He averaged 16.3 carries and 68 yards per game with Stewart on the PUP list earlier this season.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is active for tonight's game against the Saints.  He's expected to start but will split backfield duties with RBs Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert.  Williams is just a RB3 or flex in fantasy.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is listed as probable and will start Sunday night's game against the Saints.  He was limited in practice all week, though, and will continue to share carries with RBs Jonathan Stewart (probable, ankle) and Mike Tolbert.  The starting nod makes Williams the best bet in Carolina's backfield, but he's just a low-end RB3 or flex.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday.  The team is likely just letting him rest after a season-high 16 touches last week.  RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) has participated in each of the first 2 practices this week and is set to play against the Saints on Sunday.  Assuming Stewart is fine, this will be a 3-headed committee attack for Week 14.  It's a situation best avoided in fantasy.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera said after Sunday's game against the Bucs that RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is expected back at practice Wednesday.  That obviously puts him on track to return for next Sunday night's showdown against the Saints.  RB Jonathan Stewart failed to take advantage of his start yesterday, managing just 39 yards on his 14 carries.  Look for Carolina to go back to a 3-headed attack with Williams, Stewart and Mike Tolbert in Week 14.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is officially inactive for today’s game against the Bucs.  RBs Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and Mike Tolbert (knee) are active.  Stewart figures to lead the backfield in touches, but Tolbert figures to see plenty of action on passing downs and in the red zone.
