Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is officially inactive for today’s game against the Bucs.  RBs Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and Mike Tolbert (knee) are active.  Stewart figures to lead the backfield in touches, but Tolbert figures to see plenty of action on passing downs and in the red zone.

ESPN's Adam Schefter calls Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) "very doubtful for today's game against the Bucs.  He's listed as questionable on the injury report.  But D-Will didn't practice all week, and HC Ron Rivera admitted to "a lot of concern" on Friday.  Look for him to be among the inactives in a couple hours.  Schefter also confirms that both Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and Mike Tolbert (knee) will play today.  Carolina has been cautious with Stewart since he returned in Week 9, and we wouldn't expect a huge workload today.  Still, 12-15 touches would make him a viable RB3 or flex.  Tolbert figures to see action in short-yardage and passing situations.

Panthers RBs DeAngelo Williams (quad), Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and Mike Tolbert (knee) are all listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs.  Williams did not practice all week.  “A lot of concern,” HC Ron Rivera said of his status.  At best, Williams will be a game-time decision.  At less than 100% in a tough matchup, he's not a recommended fantasy play this week.  Stewart put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday and is in better shape than Williams.  HC Ron Rivera confirmed that Stewart is expected to play.  If you need to dabble in Carolina’s backfield this week, he's your best bet.  Tolbert is also expected to play and will see an increased role if Williams sits.  Even then, Tolbert would only be a TD-dependent RB3 or flex.

Panthers RBs DeAngelo Williams (quad), Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and Mike Tolbert (knee) were all held out of Wednesday's practice.  There's been no indication that any of them are in danger of missing this weekend's game against the Bucs, but check back tomorrow for another update.  None of these guys are recommended fantasy starters unless 1 of them sits out.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is active for today’s game against the Falcons.  That quad isn’t expected to be an issue, but the return of Jonathan Stewart will put a dent in Williams’ workload.  Consider him a low-end RB2.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera would like to get RB Jonathan Stewart 6-10 touches in his 2013 debut this weekend.  “What you’d love to see is DeAngelo [Williams] get in one of those rhythms,” Rivera said. “He gets four, five, six carries in eight plays, Jonathan goes in and he gets a couple of carries, some pass stuff."  Stewart won't be a recommended fantasy play until we know he'll see at least 10 touches.  That could happen as soon as next week.

Update: The Panthers officially activated Stewart from the PUP on Saturday.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) is probable for Sunday's game against the Falcons.  He didn't practice much this week but was never believed to be in danger of missing this weekend's game.  With Mike Tolbert's role growing and Jonathan Stewart set to make his 2013 debut, though, Williams is just a low-end RB2 for Week 9.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera said RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) "could have worked" on Wednesday.  It sounds like the team held him out as a precaution.  Williams should be fine for this weekend's game against the Falcons.  Rivera added that Williams will remain the starter going forward, despite the expected return of RB Jonathan Stewart.  Williams' touch count will still take a hit, though.  He's just a RB3 or flex the rest of the way.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (quad) did not practice on Wednesday.  It's a concern since the injury occurred 6 days ago.  Williams didn't return to last Thursday night's game.  The injury isn't believed to be serious, but Williams isn't a lock to be ready for this weekend's game against the Falcons.  If he's out, Mike Tolbert would likely serve as Carolina's lead back.  RB Jonathan Stewart is expected to play this week but probably isn't ready for a significant workload.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams suffered a bruised quad in Thursday night's win over the Bucs.  It doesn't sound like a serious injury, and Williams has 10 days before Carolina's next game.  He should be fine for that 1, although RB Jonathan Stewart's expected return will put a sizable dent in his fantasy outlook.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankles) made his practice debut on Tuesday.  He said afterward that he felt "good" and that he's targeting a Week 9 return.  J-Stew figures to be eased back in and won't be a recommended fantasy play right away.  But he's capable of emerging as the lead back in Carolina's committee down the stretch.  Stewart is worth stashing in most fantasy leagues.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera announced that RB Jonathan Stewart (ankles) will return to practice this week.  Rivera added that he's "unsure" if Stewart will play against the Bucs on Thursday.  We'd bet against that, but a Week 9 return looks likely.  J-Stew is worth stashing in most fantasy leagues.  There's no guarantee that those bum ankles will hold up, but he'll quickly turn Carolina's backfield into a committee if they do.  RB DeAngelo Williams' arrow is pointing down.

The Panthers will put RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) through workouts on Tuesday to determine whether he’ll practice with the team on Wednesday.  "We'll see.  He's at a point where he's doing a lot more. But he's been doing it on the side," HC Ron Rivera said.  J-Stew has been running for a couple weeks now but is likely still at least another week or 2 away from making his 2013 debut.  If he can get and stay healthy, he’ll turn Carolina’s backfield into a full-blown committee.  Stewart is worth stashing now in deeper fantasy leagues.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera says RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is on track for a Week 7 return.  That's when he's eligible to be activated from the PUP list.  But Stewart is still rehabbing his right ankle, according to insider Joseph Person, which means he's not yet back to 100%.  Stewart figures to return to a limited workload but could turn Carolina's backfield into a full-blown committee if he can get and stay healthy.  That'd crush DeAngelo Williams' RB2 value.

Panthers RB Kenjon Barner (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 1.  He's yet to practice since spraining his ankle in the preseason finale.  The rookie could eventually emerge as a change-of-pace option for Carolina, especially with RB Jonathan Stewart out.  But for now, RBs DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert will handle backfield duties.
