Bucs RB Doug Martin (ankle) is listed as doubtful for this weekend's game against the Browns.  He was in a walking boot until Wednesday and didn't practice all week.  He'll be inactive on Sunday.  That'll push RB Bobby Rainey into the lead role.  He's averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 8.2 yards per catch this season.  Rainey's upside will depend on whether RB Charles Sims (ankle) is activated for Week 9.  But even if the rookie plays, Rainey will be a solid RB2 in fantasy football.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (ankle) missed another practice on Friday. That makes 3 straight absences for Martin, as he looks doubtful to suit up vs. Cleveland. If that’s the case, Bobby Rainey could see 20+ touches depending on the status of rookie Charles Sims (ankle).  Rainey's certainly capable of approaching RB1 value with that volume, especially since the Browns have allowed 4.7 YPC to RBs.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (ankle) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday.  He's at least out of his walking boot but still seems like a long shot to play against the Browns this weekend.  Martin couldn't be trusted in fantasy lineups even if he plays.  If he's inactive, Bobby Rainey will be an intriguing RB2 in a plus matchup.  Rookie RB Charles Sims is expected to debut this week, but he'll likely be on a touch count.

Bucs RB Doug Martin did not practice on Wednesday and was in a walking boot, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  The boot could be anything from precautionary to a sign of a serious injury.  Either way, though, Martin is clearly in danger of missing this weekend's game against the Browns.  "Sounds like Bobby Rainey and Charles Sims time," Schefter tweeted.

Bucs RB Doug Martin injured his ankle in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game.  He's considered questionable to return.  Martin was struggling mightily again before leaving, turning 10 carries into just 27 yards.

In addition to WR Vincent Jackson, the Bucs also have RB Doug Martin on the trade block, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  In fact, Schefter calls Martin "more likely to be dealt" than Jackson.  Note that Tampa's current front-office and coaching staff did not draft Martin.  And the former 1st-rounder has also been a major disappointment this season, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry with 1 TD.  Even if Martin doesn't get shipped out of Tampa before Tuesday, it's very possible that his role will be scaled back over the 2nd half of the season.  The Bucs could get rookie RB Charles Sims back next week.

Bucs HC Lovie Smith said the team is "staying the course" with Doug Martin as the lead back.  “Doug has done some good things," Smith added. “When you’re the starting tailback, you know what goes along with that. We’d like Doug to get 200 yards every game, but we’re not there yet. But in time, he’ll break out."  Martin is averaging a pitiful 2.5 yards per carry on the season and has yet to top 45 rushing yards in a game.  He hasn't gotten much help from an offensive line that sits 19th in Pro Football Focus' run-blocking rankings.  But Martin has also forced just 2 missed tackles and averaged only 1.8 yards after contact per attempt, according to PFF.  He sits 37th among 53 RBs in PFF's run rankings.  Volume is keeping him in low-end RB2 territory for now.  But the Bucs will have to get Bobby Rainey more involved at some point if Martin keeps struggling.  Rainey is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, has forced 12 missed tackles and averages 2.3 yards after contact.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) is active for today’s game against the Steelers. He put in a full week of practice, so the knee shouldn’t be an issue. And we’re expecting him to lead the backfield in touches after Bobby Rainey’s 2 fumbles last week. That makes Martin worth getting into fantasy lineups in a plus matchup.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) put in a full week of practice and is probable for Sunday’s game against the Steelers. The knee issue is behind him. Now we’ll see if Martin can start producing after totaling just 9 yards on his 9 carries in the opener. He has a plus matchup this weekend against a Steelers defense allowing 5.5 yards per carry to RBs.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) put in a full practice on Wednesday.  He's set to return for this weekend's game against the Steelers.  After RB Bobby Rainey fumbled twice in last week's blowout loss to the Falcons, we're expecting Martin to get the lead job back this Sunday.  It makes him a high-upside -- if risky -- RB2 in a plus matchup.

According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Bucs RB Doug Martin appeared to be practicing without limitation during position drills Monday.  It's not generally a practice day around the league, but Tampa clearly had motivation to get back at it after playing Thursday night and starting the season 1-2.  We'll keep an eye on Martin as the Bucs get into the normal practice stretch that includes official injury reports.  If Martin's ready to play this weekend, Bobby Rainey's 2 fumbles against the Falcons could help him get right back into the lineup.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) is inactive for tonight’s game against Atlanta. Bobby Rainey will start and see upwards of 25 touches. That volume – combined with a favorable matchup – places him firmly in RB1 territory.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) is "unlikely" to play against the Falcons tonight.  It's a surprise considering most of the Tampa Bay media has been optimistic about Martin's chances of suiting up.  Rapoport concedes that Martin will test out his knee before the game, so consider him a game-time call.  We'll know his official status by 7 pm ET.

Bucs insider Rick Stroud believes the team will "go with the hot hand" in Bobby Rainey against the Falcons on Thursday night.  Stroud adds that Doug Martin will be active "but may not start."  It's impossible to know exactly how the workload will be divided, and both guys have upside against a weak Atlanta run defense.  But if forced to choose between the 2, we'd go with Rainey.

Bucs insider Pat Yasinskas confirms that RBs Doug Martin and Bobby Rainey are expected to split backfield duties against the Falcons on Thursday night. “We want to play more than one running back, two, maybe three," HC Lovie Smith said. “That’s why we’ve had three (active) every time we could. That’s just making our running back position stronger." The Bucs ground attack should have success against a Falcons defense that's allowed 283 rushing yards to RBs through 2 games. But the carry split leaves both Rainey and Martin as low-end RB2s.

Bucs RB Doug Martin (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Falcons.  Most signs point to Martin playing, and we'll find out for sure by 90 minutes before kickoff.  If he's active, Martin will be in sort kind of committee with RB Bobby Rainey.  It's a sweet matchup against the Falcons, but the workload uncertainty and knee injury make Martin a risk/reward fantasy play.

Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is inactive for Week 2 with a knee injury, as expected.  Bobby Rainey will start in his place.  We moved Rainey up the Week 2 RB rankings on the earlier reports.
