Retired QB Drew Brees tweeted that he might return to football. “Despite speculation from media about my future this fall, I’m currently undecided,” Brees began. “I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids or all of the above. I’ll let you know.” Brees last suited up in the Divisional Round of the 2020-2021 postseason. He turned 43 in January.

UPDATE: Long-time Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan tweeted that Brees' comment was "100% in jest...[there's] nothing to see here."

Saints QB Drew Brees has announced that he's retiring. It's a move we've all expected this offseason, removing the player who has started behind center in New Orleans for the past 15 years. Taysom Hill is the leading candidate on the current roster to replace him. Many expect Jameis Winston to return and compete with Hill. We'll see whether Winston re-signs with the team. Brees retires with the NFL record for career passing yards, but that won't stand for long with Tom Brady planning to play another 12 years.

Saints QB Taysom Hill (knee) and RB Latavius Murray (quad) are inactive for tonight's game vs. the Bucs. QB Drew Brees and RB Alvin Kamara will pick up extra snaps.

The Saints are "not likely" to have RB Latavius Murray (quad) or QB Taysom Hill (knee) active for today's game against the Buccaneers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Those absences would boost the touch and scoring upside for RB Alvin Kamara, as well as the scoring upside for QB Drew Brees. Hill has often replaced Brees near the goal line in recent weeks. Kamara has posted lackluster yardage totals in each meeting with Tampa this year but also scored on the ground and caught 5 passes in each game.

Saints QB Drew Brees is "likely" to retire after this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 42-year-old reportedly has a TV contract waiting from NBC. The Saints, meanwhile, would like to bring back QB Jameis Winston. "They love what they've seen in practice," Rapoport says. "They've seen the arm talent. They've seen all the skills that made him a #1 pick. They love the work ethic. They just haven't seen him show that he's learned mentally to cut down the INTs because he hasn't played." New Orleans also has QB Taysom Hill under contract for 2021.

Saints QB Taysom Hill (knee) returned to a limited practice on Friday and is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Bucs. The versatile Hill's absence would be a tangible blow to New Orleans' offense -- but boost the outlooks for QB Drew Brees and RB Alvin Kamara.

Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) is officially active for today’s game against the Chiefs. He’s historically been great at home and figures to find himself in a shootout vs. Patrick Mahomes. But Brees also carries elevated risk in his 1st game back from injury and without WR Michael Thomas. Consider him a risk/reward QB1 option.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) will start Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Brees has reportedly looked and felt good enough in practice this week and has been cleared by doctors to return. The 41-year-old averaged 265 yards and 2.1 TDs across 8 full games to open the season, completing 74% of his passes and averaging 7.4 yards per attempt. He figures to find himself in a shootout vs. the Chiefs this weekend. So, assuming he has WR Michael Thomas (ankle), Brees will be back in the low-end QB1 mix. His return is good news for Thomas and especially Alvin Kamara.

Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) is "pushing to play" against the Chiefs this weekend, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Brees has reportedly improved quite a bit over the last few days and took some 1st-team reps in Wednesday's practice. We'll continue to keep a close eye on this situation. Brees' return would be good news for RB Alvin Kamara and WR Michael Thomas.

Saints HC Sean Payton didn't sound optimistic on Wednesday about QB Drew Brees' chances of returning for this weekend's game against the Chiefs. "He's got a ways to go still, and he's someone we're not gonna just hurry back and just put him in the game," Payton said. "I think the significance of the injuries are such that you've gotta make sure he can function and feel confident." Brees was activated from IR on Wednesday, making him eligible to play this weekend. But it continues to look like QB Taysom Hill will get at least 1 more start.

There's "not a great" chance Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) returns for Sunday's game vs. the Chiefs, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Brees has been trending in the wrong direction after experiencing pain and limited range of motion during a throwing session last week. He's expected to try throwing again on Wednesday and hasn't been ruled out for Week 15 yet. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but look for QB Taysom Hill to get at least 1 more start.

Saints QB Drew Brees (ribs) is "uncertain" for next weekend's game vs. the Chiefs, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's been the target date for Brees' return, but his last throwing session reportedly didn't go well. "Still dealing with some pains, not full range of motion," Rapoport says. Brees is expected to throw again this coming Wednesday. We'll keep an eye on the situation.

Saints QB Drew Brees is eligible to return from IR this week. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, however that a Week 15 return as been "a more realistic target." Rapoport reports that Brees won't practice much Wednesday -- if at all -- but could be "ramp[ed] up" Thursday to see whether he could be ready for this Sunday's game in Philly. Keep an eye on the situation throughout the week if you're planning to start Taysom Hill in Week 14.

Saints HC Sean Payton had no timetable for QB Drew Brees' return when asked on Monday. “I honestly wouldn't be able to give you a time frame," Payton admitted. "He’s like a handful of the other guys that are down there working their tails off to get back healthy, 100% and we'll kind of see when that is.” Look for QB Taysom Hill to get another start this weekend vs. the Eagles.

The Saints have placed QB Drew Brees (ribs, lung) on IR. So he'll miss at least the next 3 games and can be dropped in most fantasy leagues. QB Taysom Hill is expected to start vs. the Falcons and should keep that job until Brees is back unless he bombs.

The 2nd opinion confirmed that Saints QB Drew Brees suffered multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung, with no new findings. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Brees is likely to miss at least 2 games, with re-evaluation after that. ESPN's Ed Werder reports that doctors have not yet determined a timeline for his return. It sounds like we need to plan for Brees being out at least the next 2 weeks. We'll see beyond that.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Saints QB Drew Brees has multiple rib fractures on both sides and a collapsed right lung. Brees reportedly entered Week 10 with a rib fracture and wore a flak jacket during the game. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds that Brees has been battling injuries "for several weeks." It seems like Brees will at least miss the Week 11 clash with Atlanta. We'll see beyond that. Jameis Winston looks like a waiver-wire add in fantasy football this week.

Update: ESPN's Dan Graziano reports that a source told him "the most optimistic recovery time would be 2-3 weeks; emphasis on optimistic. ... There is hope he's back in time for the playoffs." Rapoport reported earlier that the team isn't currently considering IR for Brees, which would force him to miss at least 3 games.
