Rams S Eric Weddle suffered a head laceration against the Panthers and is officially doubtful to return. We'll see about his status heading into Week 2.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Rams will sign S Eric Weddle, whom Baltimore released earlier this week. Weddle -- who turned 34 in January -- still checked in 10th among safeties in Pro Football Focus grading last season. He's expected to step in for S LaMarcus Joyner, who will hit free agency next week.

The Ravens are releasing veteran S Eric Weddle. It's a salary-driven move on a player Pro Football Focus graded 10th-best among safeties in 2018, his age-33 season. Weddle should be able to find a new home if he wants to keep playing. We'll see who Baltimore taps to replace him.

Former Chargers S Eric Weddle tweeted Monday that he will be signing with the Ravens. Adam Schefter reports that it's a 4-year, $26 million deal. According to, the team is now expected to release either S Will Hill or S Kendrick Lewis. Weddle, 31, will likely start next to Lardarius Webb, who deemed himself in January a free safety going forward. Weddle can play in coverage and in the box and should be the best bet for trustworthy IDP numbers the Baltimore secondary has contained in a long time. The Chargers had already signed S Dwight Lowery from the Colts to replace Weddle.

The Chargers on Monday placed S Eric Weddle (groin) on IR. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the team also informed him that he wouldn't be allowed on the flight to Denver for Sunday's season finale. That likely brings a sad end to a nice Chargers career for Weddle, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency after 9 seasons in San Diego. After Monday's moves, Weddle's agent revealed via Twitter that the team had recently fined the safety $10,000 for staying on the field during halftime of the home win vs. Miami to watch his daughter perform with a dance team. Stay classy, San Diego.

Chargers S Eric Weddle left Thursday night's loss to the Raiders early with a groin injury and did not return. That's the same issue that cause him to miss 2 games earlier this season, his first lost games since 2009. We'll see about his status heading into next week, but it'll be tough to trust him in Week 17 IDP lineups. Weddle will turn 30 in January and then hit unrestricted free agency in March (if he doesn't re-sign in the meantime, of course). Top Chargers CB Jason Verrett also left the Oakland loss early with a hamstring injury. San Diego will have little reason to press him into duty next Sunday if he's anywhere short of 100%.

Chargers S Eric Weddle (groin) missed practice Wednesday. He played each of the past 2 games, so we'd bet on him playing this week, but we'll track his progress this week.

Chargers S Eric Weddle put in limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday after missing the past 2 games with a groin injury. That's obviously a good sign for his potential return, though we'll keep an eye on his status into the weekend. It's worth noting that the Monday night start would leave you short on options if Weddle suffers any setback, though. And a Week 10 bye could motivate the Chargers to pull him early should the team build a lead on the Bears. In short, Weddle will remain risky as an IDP even if he's active for Monday night's game. Keep that in mind as you weigh your lineup options. Meanwhile, LB Manti Te'o (ankle), LB Denzel Perryman (biceps) and DE Corey Liuget (foot) have been sitting out practice this week. Don't expect them to play against Chicago.

The Chargers have ruled S Eric Weddle (groin) and LB Manti Te'o (ankle) out for Sunday's visit to Baltimore. It'll be the 2nd straight game away for Weddle and the 3rd for Te'o. We'll check on their statuses heading into a Week 9 Monday night tilt with Chicago. San Diego has also deemed rookie ILB Denzel Perryman (biceps) doubtful for Sunday's game, which means LB Kavell Conner will likely start next to Donald Butler.

Chargers S Eric Weddle and ILB Manti Te'o didn't practice Wednesday. Weddle missed Week 7 with a groin injury, the 1st time he has sat out a game since 2009. Te'o has missed the past 2 weeks with an ankle sprain. We'll see if either can get back in play for IDP owners this week, but don't count on either being available. Rookie LB Denzel Perryman, who started for Te'o the past 2 weeks, also missed Wednesday's practice with the biceps strain that pulled him from Sunday's game early.

Chargers S Eric Weddle suffered a groin injury late in Sunday's loss at Green Bay that rendered him barely able to walk afterward, according to ESPN's Eric D. Williams. "I'm just trying to get my feet under myself," Weddle said, Monday, while still reportedly walking with a limp. "It's a long week, and a lot of stuff can happen. So I'm just going to get the guys ready and try to get myself ready." We'll certainly be watching to see if Weddle will be available for our IDP lineups.

Free agent S Eric Weddle re-signed with the Chargers on a deal that will make him the highest paid safety in the league. It's not surprising to see Weddle get a big payday, but it is a bit surprising to see it come from San Diego. Some animosity developed before the lockout over the team not putting much effort into keeping Weddle around. Guess that's over. Weddle is a high-value IDP DB, and we still see some unrealized INT upside. He picked 18 passes in college at Utah, where he primarily played CB. Weddle might not deliver big numbers there in the NFL, but at least the ability is present.'s Matt Williamson believes Eric Weddle should be Jacksonville's top target once free agency opens. That makes plenty of sense. The Jaguars badly need help at safety. Weddle is a versatile and proven commodity. And the veteran has seemed irked that the Chargers didn't lock him up before now. Such a marriage would be good for IDP owners. Jacksonville allowed for middling players such as Courtney Greene and Sean Considine to post worthwhile fantasy numbers, and the D should be in for a lot of field time this year.
