Steelers OLB James Harrison is doubtful for Sunday's game at Cincinnati because of a knee injury that has kept him out of practice this week. His absence should make it easier for OLB Jarvis Jones to find playing time in his return to action, though the 2nd-year player is not an IDP option.

2:34pm EST 3/9/13

The Steelers have released OLB James Harrison. Apparently the 2 sides couldn't agree on how much the soon-to-be 35-year-old is worth. Injuries have hampered Harrison for 2 straight years, but he remained a productive player when on the field. Harrison finished last year ranked #10 among 3-4 OLBs by Pro Football Focus. That included rating 3rd at the position against the run. He'll find a starting job somewhere. Cleveland would be a particularly interesting landing spot. The Browns are switching to a 3-4 front for 2013 and have former Pittsburgh DB coach Ray Horton as their new DC. Harrison could be a dangerous man with revenge on his mind. Fantasy football players in IDP leagues should certainly keep him in their preseason thoughts. Jason Worilds is the most obvious candidate to replace Harrison in the Steelers' lineup, though he'll likely face competition for the job.

James Harrison's agent told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that his client isn't willing to take a pay cut to stay in Pittsburgh. He did say that the 34-year-old LB would be open to potentially reworking his current deal for cap relief. This is no real surprise. Harrison has always proved stubborn, and why shouldn't he be on this issue. His play hasn't suffered. Only injuries have claimed productive games. The Steelers, of course, have proved willing to dump veterans when they deemed it best for the club. It seems hard to envision the team jettisoning Harrison this offseason, though.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers will face the Jets this week without OLB James Harrison and S Troy Polamalu. Both veterans are officially listed as questionable. Chris Carter started in Harrison's place against the Broncos. Ryan Mundy is expected to fill in for Polamalu.

Steelers OLB James Harrison tweeted today that he was unable to make practice and "looks like" he'll be a game-time decision Sunday night against the Broncos. That only makes it easier for IDP owners to do what they should have done anyway: bench him. Jason Worilds would likely start in his absence.

The Steelers have activated OLB James Harrison off the PUP list. Harrison had his sore knee scoped on Aug. 15. He's targeting the regular-season opener for his return, though some remain skeptical that he can make that. Harrison entered last season with big-time physical questions after two offseason back surgeries but performed just fine once the games counted. Cautious fantasy owners might want to sit him against Peyton Manning and the Broncos, but Harrison remains a strong IDP sleeper across most formats. The team also activated 3rd OLB Jason Worilds from the PUP today. Worilds had missed all of camp following wrist surgery.

The Steelers had been letting James Harrison try to work through left knee inflammation at his own pace. WednesdTay they decided it was time to have the knee scoped. News of Harrison's surgery came less than 24 hours after his agent said the team would probably take the star OLB off the PUP in a week or 2, let him test the knee and then decide on surgery. Instead, HC Mike Tomlin reportedly said Harrison's return "shouldn't be long" after the earlier surgery date. Harrison's agent said the player is otherwise in better shape than he's been in 3 years. With the season opener still 25 days away, it's possible the veteran sees no ill effect from the surgery. For now, we're leaving our projection unchanged.

11:13am EST 12/16/11

As expected, the 1-game league suspension for Steelers OLB James Harrison has been upheld. He'll miss the Monday-night clash with the Niners. Jason Worilds will start at Harrison's ROLB spot, 11 days after a monster IDP effort against the Browns from LOLB. LaMarr Woodley will apparently return to reclaim that spot. He missed the Cleveland game but practice Thursday and wasn't listed on the team's injury report. Woodley is an upside candidate whenever he takes the field but also comes with plenty of risk. He has played all of 13 snaps since suffering a hamstring injury against New England in Week 8.

The league has suspended Steelers OLB James Harrison for the Monday night game because of his helmet-to-helmet hit on Colt McCoy last Thursday. Harrison has a well-known history of fines for such infractions, and this move was expected. He can appeal the suspension, but that history makes it unlikely the ruling will change. And don't expect the review process to keep him eligible for the meeting with San Francisco. Lions DT Ndamukong Suh appealed his suspension 2 weeks ago and got a ruling before the next game. Jason Worilds is listed as Harrison's backup. He has been starting at LOLB, though, with LaMarr Woodley out. Chris Carter is listed as Woodley's backup, so perhaps those 2 will combine to fill in against the Niners. When Harrison and Worilds were both out earlier this season, though, ILB Lawrence Timmons moved out to ROLB (ineffectively). Whatever the team does, Harrison's absence will hurt the Steelers' team D outlook in fantasy.

The Steelers might have OLB James Harrison in the lineup after all for Sunday's rematch with Baltimore. The veteran is listed as probable after taking part in full practice on Friday. Harrison still must get game clearance from doctors on Saturday and says he won't play if they deem his eye unready. Harrison has been out since Week 4 with an orbital bone fracture. He posted 9 tackles (7 solo) in the 1st meeting with the Ravens and is worth starter consideration whenever active. There might be a little rust after a 4-week layoff, though. The team also officially ruled OLB LaMarr Woodley out with his hamstring injury. Harrison's return is expected to push Lawrence Timmons back to his ILB slot.

The Steelers will reportedly be without ROLB James Harrison for at least a couple of games after Harrison fractured the orbital bone on the right side of his face in Week 4. Harrison's backup, Jason Worilds, is doubtful for Week 5 with a quad strain of his own. HC Mike Tomlin said ILB Lawrence Timmons will slide outside to fill in and leave his starting spot to veteran Larry Foote. Timmons is a rare athlete at LB and will be interesting to watch. Obviously, it's all bad news for the Pittsburgh D on whole. It can't hurt the value of Titans RB Chris Johnson, though, a week after he finally delivered for fantasy owners.

Steelers OLB James Harrison left Sunday's game after suffering an apparent eye injury but was able to return. Harrison said the pad at the front of his helmet slipped down and hit his eye during a play, causing some double-vision. HC Mike Tomlin said Harrison will undergo precautionary concussion testing. The fact that the team let him return, though, suggests he should be fine. We'll see if the testing says any different.

Steelers OLB James Harrison limped off the field in the 2nd half Sunday, but his injury is nothing serious. It turns out Harrison suffered only a knee contusion. HC Mike Tomlin expects him to be fine for Week 2. Harrison tallied 9 tackles (7 solo) and a QB hit against Baltimore on Sunday, eluding worry about his physical readiness to produce.

Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, OLB James Harrison conceded after the 3rd exhibition game that he's not all the way back to game shape yet. Harrison, who had two offseason surgeries on his back, was noticeably winded at times against the Falcons. He says he'll "eventually" get back to full strength but doesn't know when that will be. Notably, the Falcons attempted 42 passes in the 1st half of that game. That would keep a pass rusher pretty busy. This is certainly cause for concern among IDP owners, especially considering Harrison is 33. He'll make for a risky Week 1 start, but a potential matchup with inconsistent new Raven LT Bryant McKinnie could give us a good look.

Steelers LB James Harrison underwent back surgery a couple of weeks ago to remove a piece of herniated disc.  He went under the knife again today in what his agent called a "follow-up and continuation" of the first surgery.  “They got rid of something, and found a little more,” agent Bill Parisi said.  Harrison is fully expected to be ready for training camp, but the dual surgeries are definitely a concern for the 32-year-old.

Steelers LB James Harrison was added to the team's injury report on Friday as "questionable" with a biceps injury.  Harrison reportedly took a helmet to the arm in Friday's practice and may not be ready for Sunday's game against the Ravens.  If he's out, it'd make life a lot easier on QB Joe Flacco.

Steelers LB James Harrison (biceps) will play against the Ravens today, per NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora.

The Steelers and LB James Harrison have agreed to a new 6-year deal that will pay the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year $51.175 million. Harrison was 4th in the NFL with 16.5 sacks last year and led the league with 7 forced fumbles. The contract reportedly contains about $20 million in bonuses. Harrison was set to become a free-agent after this season. At 30 years old, Harrison's new contract is likely front-loaded.

Steelers LB James Harrison picked off Kurt Warner on the last play of the 1st half and took it 100 yards for the longest play in Super Bowl history. Someone in the Steelers media has called it the Immaculate Interception. Classic. It truly was an unforgettable play. Had Warner hit Anquan Boldin for the TD it would have been 14-10 Cardinals at halftime. Instead it was 17-7 Steelers. Harrison also forced LT Mike Gandy into 3 holding penalties. The 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year did not get a sack but his INT was the spark that put the Steelers in control. "That was amazing," Steelers S Troy Polamalu said. "Once he got to the 50, I was like, 'Keep going, keep going, keep going.' I actually missed the block on Larry Fitzgerald. Otherwise, it would have been so much easier." Harrison just capped off a huge season where he notched 16 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 1 safety, and 1 INT.
