Patriots WR Josh Gordon announced Thursday that he's stepping away from the team to focus on his mental health. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Gordon is facing another indefinite suspension for violating terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy. Don't expect to see him on the field again this season -- and this could spell the end of Gordon's NFL career. It's obviously a significant loss for the Patriots. Gordon has played over 70% of New England offensive snaps since arriving and averaged 6.2 targets per game. WR Chris Hogan would seem like the big winner, but he averaged just 4.7 targets and 2.3 catches over the first 3 weeks before the Gordon trade. We should see some more WR Cordarrelle Patterson, while WR Julian Edelman, TE Rob Gronkowski and RB James White could also pick up an extra target or 2.
Update: Gordon has been suspended indefinitely for violating the terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy. It's the 5th suspension of his NFL career and could result in permanent banishment from the league.
Dolphins lead CB Xavien Howard will likely miss Sunday's game against the Patriots because of a knee injury, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe. HC Adam Gase deemed Howard "week to week" in a Wednesday press conference, which generally indicates a player isn't expected to be ready for the coming game. That's bad news for the Miami pass D but good news for owners of Patriots WR Josh Gordon. We'll keep an eye on Howard's status heading into the weekend -- and then beyond.
The Patriots plan to bench WR Josh Gordon for "several series" during tonight's game against the Bills because of tardiness, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. His absence will reportedly amount to about a quarter of action, with "regular playing time after that." This situation isn't likely to change many redraft plans for tonight, but it adds risk to Gordon if you're building any DFS lineups that include tonight's game. Throw in the matchup with CB Tre'Davious White and Gordon's extreme popularity for fantasy, and he looks like a good player to fade in DFS. We'll see if any off-field issues persist for Gordon in New England.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is questionable for Monday night’s game against the Bills. He put in limited practices all week, though, and played through the exact same setup last week. We’d bet on Gordon playing but will confirm his status Monday evening.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is active for today’s game against the Dolphins. He was limited in practice all week and figures to be on some type of snap count in his Pats debut. Gordon is just a fantasy flier.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that there's a "good chance" WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) makes his Patriots debut against the Dolphins today. We'll find out for sure by noon ET. If active, Gordon figures to play a limited number of snaps after joining the team just 2 weeks ago. Consider him just a fantasy flier for Week 4.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. It’s unclear if he’s ready to make his Pats debut, but we’ll find out by noon ET. If active, Gordon will be just a fantasy flier.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is inactive for tonight’s game against the Lions. It’s unclear if the hammy is keeping him out or the fact that he’s been with the team for less than a week. Regardless, Chris Hogan and Phillip Dorsett will remain New England’s top 2 WRs tonight.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is "no sure thing" to play against the Lions tonight, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "He’ll have to test his hamstring pre-game and the team is preparing for scenarios without him on the field, as well as one with him playing," Rapoport says. "Clear they aren’t 100% counting on it." Even if Gordon's hammy allows him to suit up, he figures to play a limited number of snaps. He shouldn't be in Week 3 fantasy lineups.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Lions after a limited week of practice. We’ll look for updates on his status Sunday morning, but we might not know for sure whether he’ll play until 90 minutes until kickoff. If he does, it will be in a limited role. Gordon belongs on fantasy benches for Week 3.
WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) was limited in his 1st practice with the Patriots Wednesday. Gordon dealt with hamstring trouble in August and reportedly suffered a setback late last week. It's unclear at this point whether New England plans to play him against the Lions on Sunday night. We should know more later this week.
The Patriots have acquired WR Josh Gordon from the Browns in exchange for a conditional 5th-round pick. This was 1 of (if not the best) landing spots for Gordon's 2018 fantasy upside. He'll be working with an elite QB in an offense with a relatively clear path to playing time. Be careful not to overrate Gordon here, though. He has a brand new offense to learn, has been dealing with hamstring trouble for almost a month now and obviously comes with lots of off-field baggage. Consider Gordon a high-upside bench stash for now. We'll be keeping a close eye on his progress in New England.
The Browns will release WR Josh Gordon on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Here's the statement from GM John Dorsey: "For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we've reached a point where we feel it's best to part ways and move forward. We wish Josh well." This is a stunning turn after Gordon opened the season on the active roster and played more than expected in Week 1. His Week 2 deactivation -- reportedly for a hamstring injury -- may have been the last straw. We'll see if there's more to this story. It's hard to imagine another team taking on the Gordon headache at this point ... but talent is always attractive. In Cleveland, Rashard Higgins could see the biggest role growth the rest of the way vs. preseason expectations.
Update: Schefter reports that "multiple league sources" expect the Browns to trade Gordon by Monday instead.
Browns WR Josh Gordon is out for Sunday's game at New Orleans. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gordon complained of hamstring trouble at team headquarters Saturday and was ruled out after getting checked. That leaves a few more targets available for WR Jarvis Landry, TE David Njoku and RB Duke Johnson in a game where Cleveland figures to trail.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Browns plan to play WR Josh Gordon "roughly 20 snaps, give or take." That's certainly enough for Gordon to compile some stats, but it's also about one-third of a normal game's worth of offensive snaps. Use Gordon in fantasy football lineups at your own risk.
The weather for today's Steelers-Browns game doesn't look quite as bad as it appeared it might be 24 hours ago. Light rain is expected throughout with winds of 10-20 mph. We'd try to avoid the kickers in this game and use the weather as a tiebreaker for passing-game pieces. But we're not adjusting our projections.
Browns WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is not listed on the final Week 1 injury report. He put in a full practice on Friday after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Gordon won't start this weekend's game against the Steelers -- rookie Antonio Callaway will -- and he's expected to be on a snap count. It leaves Gordon as a risk/reward WR3 for Week 1.
Browns HC Hue Jackson said Monday that WR Antonio Callaway will start this weekend's opener against the Steelers. That'd be alongside WR Jarvis Landry and instead of WR Josh Gordon. Of course, who starts is far less important than who plays the most snaps. And we'd still bet on Gordon playing the 2nd most snaps among Browns WRs. But he won't be a full-go after essentially missing all of August. Gordon will be a risk/reward WR3 in Week 1 fantasy lineups.
