Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder) is expected to start Sunday's game against the Cardinals, according to insider Adam Caplan.  We still don't have many details on McCown's injury, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggested that it's not serious.  McCown's availability would be good news for WR Travis Benjamin and TE Gary Barnidge, but he won't be a Week 8 fantasy option vs. Arizona's 3rd-ranked QB defense.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Browns QB Josh McCown is "just a little banged up."  He exited Sunday's loss to the Rams with a shoulder injury and is scheduled for an MRI.  The team hasn't provided an update.  "I'm sore but getting better," McCown said Monday.  We'll continue to track his status throughout the week, but he won't be a recommended fantasy option against the Cardinals.  Neither will QB Johnny Manziel if he starts in place of McCown.

Browns QB Josh McCown has passed his concussion tests and will start Sunday's game against the Raiders, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  It's so Browns to go back to a 36-year-old journeyman who has never been effective outside of a 1-year stint in Marc Trestman's offense.  QB Johnny Manziel still has plenty of flaws, but at least he has the potential to develop into a solution to Cleveland's QB woes.  McCown doesn't and isn't a fantasy option going forward.

Browns HC Mike Pettine opted against committing to QB Josh McCown (concussion) as his team's starter when healthy.  “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it," McCown said. "I’m not going to speak on that one.”  QB Johnny Manziel led Cleveland to a victory on Sunday, completing 8 of 15 passes for 172 yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs.  It wasn't a perfect performance, but Manziel sparked the offense with TD throws of 60 and 50 yards.  There's little reason for the Browns to go back to McCown, who isn't the long-term answer.  We're still not ready to trust Manziel in fantasy lineups, but he's worth stashing in deeper leagues.

Browns QB Josh McCown (concussion) is expected to practice on Friday, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.  It sounds like he's making good progress in his recovery from last week's concussion.  Fowler adds that McCown remains Cleveland's starter when healthy.  We'll see if he can receive full clearance ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans.  Fantasy owners should just avoid the Browns passing game.

Browns QB Josh McCown produced just 3 points in 1 half of action against the Bills in Thursday night's exhibition.  He finished 7 of 10 for 57 yards and 2 INTs.  Then he required x-rays on a "jammed" finger after the game, per insider Tony Grossi.  "Feels fine,” McCown said of the finger.  "I don’t know exactly when it happened. I just know it was sore. So we just took some precautions to make sure it’s alright. I don’t want to speculate moving forward. Something could change overnight, but I feel like it’ll be fine, so, we’ll see.”  QB Johnny Manziel, meanwhile, went 10 of 18 for 118 yards and 1 TD, plus 19 more yards on 3 runs.  HC Mike Pettine remained committed to McCown as his starter afterward, but we wouldn't expect anything different.  Avoid both Browns QBs in fantasy drafts.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi says the Browns are "by all appearances, moving on" from QB Johnny Manziel as a potential starter. He says veteran QB Josh McCown "has been virtually anointed the starting quarterback without even the hint of a 'competition' in training camp." This, of course, remains the speculation of a beat writer until some coach calls McCown the unquestioned starter on the record. But Cleveland has indicated that McCown will be the guy at least early in 2015. Manziel has reportedly failed to impress on the field so far this offseason. He'll need to change that drastically to have any hope of seeing the field during the regular season. The whole situation remains ugly for fantasy football purposes.

The Browns have signed QB Josh McCown to a 3-year deal reportedly worth about $15 million.  He'll compete with (and hopefully mentor) QB Johnny Manziel.  McCown has a good shot to be under center come Week 1, but it's nearly impossible to like him in fantasy football.  He's a career 58.8% passer outside of Marc Trestman's offense and is joining an offense with an unproven OC and shaky pass-catching corps.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Rodak report that free-agent QB Josh McCown is in Buffalo working out a contract with the Bills. Given that, it's hard to imagine the soon-to-be 36-year-old leaving town without a deal. The move certainly makes sense for McCown, who would have only EJ Manuel standing between him and a starting gig. For Buffalo, McCown doesn't provide much of an upgrade over Kyle Orton, who retired after the 2014 season. McCown has proved over the past 2 years, though, that he can deliver spot-starter value in fantasy football. We'll see whether Manuel can hold him off and climb back into the Bills' starting role.

UPDATE: McCown reportedly left Buffalo on Monday without a deal.

The Bucs have released QB Josh McCown.  The move saves them more than $4 million against the salary cap.  McCown started 10 games last year, finishing as a top-12 QB in 4 different weeks.  But his final numbers were ugly: a 56.3% completion rate with 11 TDs and 14 INTs.  He hasn't had any NFL success outside of Marc Trestman's offense.  Turning 36 in July, McCown is unlikely to land a starting job in 2015.  The Bucs are left with Mike Glennon at QB for now but are widely expected to select Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota with the 1st pick of the draft.

The Bucs have hired Dirk Koetter as their new OC.  Koetter has spent the past 8 seasons running NFL offenses -- 5 in Jacksonville and the last 3 in Atlanta.  Only 1 of his Jaguars squads finished in the top half of the league in total offense, but he didn't have much talent to work with.  His Falcons teams ranked 7th, 20th and 12th in total offense.  Koetter has some intriguing young prospects to work with in Tampa Bay, specifically WR Mike Evans and TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins.  We'll have more on Koetter's impact on the Bucs throughout the offseason.

Today's Bucs-Bears game in Chicago is expected to be played in windy conditions.  The current forecast calls for 15 mph winds with gusts up to 22.  Any rain in the area is expected to move out before kickoff.  The weather isn't enough for us to move anyone in the game up or down our Week 12 Rankings, but you might use it as a tiebreaker if deciding between 2 similarly ranked options.

Bucs QB Josh McCown will start Sunday's game against the Falcons.  QB Mike Glennon has been mediocre in 5 starts, completing 55.9% of his passes, averaging 7.2 yards per attempt and tossing 9 TDs vs. 6 INTs.  McCown wasn't any better in 2-and-a-half games to open the season, posting a 63.2% completion rate, 6.2 yards-per-attempt average and 2:4 TD-to- INT rate.  We wonder why the 1-7 Bucs would go back to a 35-year-old who clearly isn't their long-term answer.  McCown has a prime Week 10 matchup against Atlanta's 20th-ranked QB defense, but he can't be trusted as more than a mid-range QB2.

Bucs QB Josh McCown isn't planning on having surgery on his injured throwing thumb, according to insider Rick Stroud.  McCown is "getting better" but is still unlikely to be available for this weekend's game against the Saints.  Of course, he's likely lost his starting job after QB Mike Glennon led Tampa Bay to its 1st win of the season this past Sunday.

Bucs QB Josh McCown is dealing with a torn ligament in his thumb, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  He'll try to throw on Monday.  If that doesn't go well, McCown could opt to have surgery.  That'd cost him 6 weeks.  Of course, a solid performance from QB Mike Glennon against the Steelers today could make McCown's status a moot point.
