Ravens RB Buck Allen is a healthy scratch for today's opener against the Bills. He was expected to serve in a passing-down role but has evidently fallen out of favor. That work figures to now to to RB Justin Forsett, making him a much safer fantasy play. Forsett and Terrance West are the only 2 active RBs for the Ravens.

Ravens insider Jeff Zrebiec confirms that RB Justin Forsett will start today's opener against the Bills. But RB Terrance West will be in the game "early and often," per Zrebiec, and the Ravens will "stay with the hot hand." RB Buck Allen should also be involved, especially in passing situations. This is a situation to avoid if possible. But if you're dabbling in the Baltimore backfield, Forsett is your best bet.

Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) is out for Sunday’s opener against the Bills. The rookie didn’t practice at all and is likely another week or 2 away from a return. Justin Forsett, Terrance West and Buck Allen are all expected to be involved in Baltimore’s backfield this Sunday. It’s a situation to avoid if possible.

The Ravens have re-signed RB Justin Forsett, just 2 days after cutting him. It was a cost-saving move by the Ravens, who like their young RBs but still value Forsett's experience. Look for him, Terrance West and Buck Allen to all have a role in Sunday's opener against the Bills. It's a situation best avoided for now. We'll re-assess after Week 1.

Multiple reports have called RB Justin Forsett's return to Baltimore this week possible. Pro Football Talk reports, however, that "Forsett's return is likely." Why cut him if they want him back? The Ravens reportedly hope to re-sign the veteran at a lower salary. The depth chart on the team website still lists Forsett as the starter. There's, of course, no guarantee that he re-joins the team this week. But don't approach your draft in the meantime as though Forsett is completely out of the picture. He and the 3 remaining Baltimore backs remain worthwhile shots to take in the double-digit rounds of your draft; risky options any time before that.

ESPN's Adam Scheffer reports that the Ravens have cut RB Justin Forsett. It's a surprise move after the veteran operated like the #1 back in the 3rd preseason game. But it indicates that the team is happy with its younger options. Terrance West looks like the best early bet for fantasy value, as he worked ahead of Buck Allen in the 3rd exhibition. Kenneth Dixon still looks like the best all-around player remaining but will be limited early by an MCL injury. He'll be a good late-round stash in your fantasy football draft this week if you can afford the roster spot over the season's 1st month.

Update: ESPN's Jamison Hensley says, "No one should be surprised this week if the Ravens re-sign RB Justin Forsett." Guess we'll see.

Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon has been diagnosed with a torn MCL and is expected to miss 4 weeks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The prognosis could have been worse, but it's still bad timing for a rookie who was building momentum. Dixon now figures to miss at least the first 3 games of the season. And it'll be longer than that before he has a shot to become a fantasy option. Dixon is only worth stashing in leagues with deep benches. Justin Forsett, Buck Allen and Terrance West all figure to have a role in Baltimore's Week 1 backfield.

Count ESPN's Jamison Hensley as the latest passenger on the hype train for Ravens RB Terrance West. While acknowledging that West remains 3rd on the RB depth chart, Hensley called him "the No. 1 playmaker for the Baltimore offense so far this training camp." He's not the 1st to suggest that West -- a former 3rd-round pick who spent the offseason trimming down -- might have a shot to start. Of course, rookie Kenneth Dixon only just got on the training camp field after dealing with a knee sprain. And Justin Forsett and Buck Allen still sit atop the depth chart. This will continue to be arguably the most interesting offense to watch through camp and the preseason. West makes sense as a late-round flier for now.

Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon injured his knee in Thursday's training camp practice. HC John Harbaugh said afterward that Dixon "should be fine." We'll see if we learn more about the exact injury, but the rookie can't afford to miss much time in a crowded Baltimore backfield. Justin Forsett is the favorite to open the season as the starting RB.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley considers Justin Forsett the favorite to remain the team's "top back."  It's just 1 man's opinion, and veterans tend to get the benefit of the doubt this time of year.  Hensley also acknowledges that Forsett will need to hold off Buck Allen, Kenneth Dixon, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Terrance West and Trent Richardson.  In other words, Baltimore's backfield is wide open heading to training camp.  But we can't count out Forsett, who's lasting into the 9th or 10th round of recent MFL10s.
